Well if last Saturday was shake up Saturday in college football, this Saturday must have been “carnage Saturday”, especially in the SEC and in the top ten and top twenty five! The big game last night between 5 FSU and 3 Clemson was quite frankly a complete dud, a bust. FSU made Clemson look like they were confused and did not know they were at home on their own field which they refer to as Death Valley. Clemson fumbled on their opening drive and FSU took it in for a TD and there was no looking back for the Noles. The Tigers were NEVER in this game, it was all FSU for all four quarters. A commanding performance by FSU, Jamies Winston and perhaps a Heisman defining moment for this outstanding young freshman QB and very humble young man. After the game, he gave credit where credit was due, TEAM, all about his team and head coach. (Just as a mention, I still like Marcus Mariota of 2 Oregon for the Heisman, but there is still a lot of football to be played, just halfway through the season so…) Speaking of the Quack Attack, they withstood Washington State’s valiant effort to win 62 – 38. Nice touch with the pink helmets to be auctioned off to raise money for breast cancer!
Moving on, 1 Alabama did what the crowd chants, Roll Tide Roll, and dismantled Arkansas 52 – 0. No reason to see a change at #1 and #2, Alabama and Oregon should remain there this week. (But will be interesting to see not only AP and Coaches Polls but the first BCS Poll which comes out tonight) 6 LSU went down to Ole Miss 27 – 24 as the Rebels kicked a game winning field goal with six seconds left on the clock. Thus, they win the Magnolia Trophy. A lot of credit to Ole Miss who was playing without six defensive starters! And if anyone cares, in a traditional battle between two currently unranked teams, Notre Dame held off USC to win 14 – 10.
Five top ten teams lost beginning on Friday night with 8 Louisville. Then on Saturday, 3 Clemson, 6 LSU, 9 UCLA and 7 Texas A & M all fell. 11 South Carolina and 15 UGA also lost, incredible weekend of football in the SEC. By the way, sure to move up, 12 Baylor who trounced Iowa State, 71 – 7. They should have a contest with Oregon each week to see who can put up the most points!
Moving to MLB, congrats to the Boston Red Sox (and my buddy Ron) who defeated the Detroit Tigers last night 5 – 2 and advance to the World Series to face the St. Louis Cardinals.
Those polls will start rolling out a bit later today and don’t forget Mr. Manning returns to Indy tonight on SNF!
Later…
