Big weekend in college football got underway last night and 8 Louisville fell from the ranks of the unbeaten at home, losing to the University of Central Florida, 38 – 35. Bridgewater led the Cardinals down the field in the 4th quarter to take a lead, 35 – 31 but UCF came back to score the winning TD with 23 seconds left in the game. Down go the Cardinals and likely any hope of Teddy Bridgewater being a strong Heisman candidate. Never mind, he will be a top NFL draft pick and go on to great things. Still, very disappointing loss for Louisville (which will join the ACC next year) and head coach Charlie Strong. UCF is good folks! George O’Leary is a heck of a coach, he did a tremendous job at Georgia Tech. Speaking of Georgia Tech, they appear to be “getting well” today in Atlanta, up 35 – 0 on Syracuse early in the second half. It is raining and I elected to watch the game of TV with so much great action going on today. Really glad to see the Jackets looking good and Vad Lee starting and playing a tremendous game so far. Just threw a beautiful TD pass to Waller! GO JACKETS!
Many great games in progress and more to come later today. Will follow up on some early results later!
Meanwhile, the Dodger are out, falling to St. Louis last night and the Cardinals advance to the World Series. They await the winner of the Red Sox – Detroit series. Gee, surprised to see the Dodgers go down as they did…makes the Atlanta Braves look even worse! Not good as a Braves fan. I pull for the LA teams, but mainly the Lakers.
Moving to basketball, Midnight Madness got underway last night, the official start of college basketball practice. Kentucky is the preseason #1. In the NBA, Derrick Rose has returned to action, (finally?) and scored 32 points last night. Looks like he has healed at last and is ready to go for the Bulls. Expect some great things from the Chicago Bulls this year! Will be a wait and see as to when Kobe Bryant returns to action for the Lakers. He has said he still cannot push off his injured achilles heel without pain but I do expect Kobe to be in uniform when the season (not preseason) gets underway.
Later….
