AP and Coaches Polls out and congrats to Scott Dixon!

After the weekend that was, the AP and Coaches Polls are both out!  Talk about some changes….first BCS Poll out tonight.  So here we go!

AP top ten: 1 Alabama (55), 2 Oregon (3), 3 FSU (2), 4 Ohio State, 5 Missouri (quite a jump from #14), 6 Baylor (moves up from #12), 7 Miami, 8 Stanford (Welcome back!!), 9 Clemson, 10 Texas Tech.

Coaches Poll: 1 Alabama (51), 2 Oregon (4), 3 FSU (1), 4 Ohio State, 5 Baylor (wow!), 6 Miami, 7 Missouri, 8 Stanford (again, welcome back), 9 Texas Tech, and 10 Clemson.

A few discrepancies between the two polls…Missouri given a higher ranking in AP than the Coaches and Baylor ranked higher in Coaches than the AP.  Miami is moving on up and that Nov. 2nd game at FSU should be a great one.  Oregon has a tough road ahead, at Stanford, vs. Oregon State, and then likely UCLA.  Non the less, win out and they are in!  Alabama some think are a lock, I beg to differ.  Wait and see, still have LSU and the Iron Bowl with Auburn is always an adventure.  Then the SEC title game in Atlanta against…perhaps Missouri with maybe James Franklin back at QB.  Much remains to be seen as the season is only halfway over.

Notable movers…Auburn to #11 in the AP, #17 in the Coaches; UCLA drops to #12 in AP, #11 in Coaches; LSU goes down to #13 in both polls; Texas A & M falls to #14 in both polls; Virginia Tech comes in at #16.  South Carolina falls to #20 in both polls and UCF makes it top twenty five debut, #21 in the AP and #25 in the Coaches Poll.  Dropped from the top twenty five…UGA, the mighty Gators, and Washington from the Pac 12.  That Pac 12 is tough this year, folks!

NFL action today, Falcons lead the Bucs (yuk!) and I am “footballed” out!  But, I am anxiously awaiting SNF game with the Broncos visiting the Colts in Indy.  Mr. Peyton Manning returns to the house that he built and I hope he and the Broncos get it done and shut up Mr. Jim Irsay once and for all (is that even possible?)!

As a footnote:  Congratulations to Scott Dixon of Gnassi Racing who won his third IndyCar series championship last night at Fontana, CA.  He is of course the teammate to my guy, Dario Franchitti (a three time series champion himself) who is recovering from having a second surgery performed on his fractured ankle suffered in a horrific crash.  Dario is recuperating in Indy and I am sure was cheering on his good buddy “Dixie”.  Rumor has it estranged wife Ashley Judd has rushed to his side and they may be giving their marriage a “second chance”.  I hope so!  They are both lovely, classy people and if it can work out, good for them.  Get well Dario, and looking  forward to great things from you next year!

Speaking of class acts, (Peyton Manning, Dario Franchitti, Scott Dixon), Mr. Roger Federer returns to action this week in Basel, his hometown.  Come on Fed…finish this year strong and prove everyone wrong next year…win another Grand Slam!  GO FED!
