Auburn – UGA game – this is why we watch college football!

The Auburn – UGA game today was one of the most unbelievable and indescribable games I have ever seen…it makes us all remember why we love college football.  This game had a finish that can only be described as “a thanksgiving miracle” for Auburn…some are calling it the Marshall miracle (QB Nick Marshall of Auburn, actually transferred from UGA, love the irony!)  Anyhow, Auburn seemed firmly in control of this game, leading 37 – 17 early in the 4th quarter.  Then UGA came roaring back with the help of some  penalties and sloppy play by Auburn.  On 4th down with two minutes left in the game, UGA QB Aaron Murray takes off running and lowers his head, is met at the goal line (gets a split forehead in the process) and scores (or did he? could not tell if his knee was down before the ball crossed the goal, replay inconclusive so call on the field of TD stood).  UGA 38, Auburn 37.  Auburn takes the kickoff and makes it just past the twenty.  After moving the ball and then retreating, Auburn ends up with 4th and a mile (12 or 16 yards to be exact I think) and Nick Marshall heaves a Hail Mary pass that is tipped by not one, but two UGA defenders into the hands of the Auburn receiver who shuffles five yards into the endzone.  Two point conversion was not good…Auburn 43 – UGA 38.  Then, UGA receives the ball, out of the endzone so touchback and proceeds to drive the ball down down the field and into the redzone.  On yet another 4th down, Aaron Murray finds noone open and starts to run with 3 seconds left and is sacked.  This game was simply unbelievable and for a team that is always lucky, the dawgs were not on this day in Auburn.  UGA is eliminated from winning the SEC East and Auburn keeps their hopes alive for both SEC and National title aspirations with the Iron Bowl and Bama coming to Auburn in a couple of weeks.

Out shadowed by this exciting game was an ACC game which saw Duke (yes, Duke) defeat 24 Miami 48 – 30 to take the lead in the ACC Coastal Division.  How about the Dukies!

3 Ohio State rolled over Illinois, 60 – 35 (they do give up points however, week in and week out); Maryland upset VT in Blacksburg in OT, 27 – 24 (making that Duke victory all the more significant); 2 FSU rolled over Syracuse 59 – 3 and 6 Oregon took care of Utah, 44 – 21 in Eugene.  1 Alabama taking on Miss State tonight and 4 Stanford at USC.

That UGA – Auburn game took my breath away…I may have to watch the Hallmark Christmas movie I was going to record and just check in on Stanford?  Well, we will see, once I take a moment to recover!  That was special!
