Djokovic ends Nadal’s eight year reign in Monte Carlo

Novak Djokovic has defeated Rafael Nadal in straight sets to win the final of the Monte Carlo Open, 6 – 2, 7 – 6.  He did so in under two hours and also ended a 46 match winning streak held by Nadal at this event.  Rafa had won this championship eight years running and now the questions begs, does this mean the forecast for the French Open changes?  I don’t know if that can be said, a five set Major vs. a three set Masters series championship are two different entities.  Still, have to think Rafa will be tough to beat on the clay in Roland Garros.  But, we shall see.  Djokovic feels like this event in Monte Carlo is his hometown tournament as he lives just down the road.  That is of course to avoid paying taxes!  Oops, I said it, oh well, it is true.  Gotta love Roger Federer who is Swiss and lives in Switzerland with his money in a Swiss bank.  Rafa is Spanish and oh yes, still lives in Spain.  I am just saying….Look forward to Madrid Open in early May when Fed returns and all the big four will be competing on clay prior to Roland Garros!
