It is Djokovic and Serena from Rome!!

Novak Djokovic derailed the “King of Clay”, Rafael Nadal today in the men’s final from Rome, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3.  On the women’s side…the result was as expected, Serena Williams took care of the home town girl, Sara Errani in straight sets, 6-3, 6-0.  All credit to Sara for making the final, but Serena is well, Serena!  On the men’s side, much more to read into this result.  Have been saying I thought Nadal was vulnerable on clay this year heading into Roland Garros (May 25th!) and Nole proved that he was up to the task of possibly taking the French Open title this year (Rafa has won it nine times, and he was denied his eight title in Rome today).  Also, Wawrinka should be a factor and never, ever forget about or rule out the GOAT, Mr. Federer!!  Also if Kei Nishikori is back healthy, he could really be a threat to win the upcoming second Grand Slam of 2014.  David Ferrer never gives up and is a clay court specialist, but I think it is Djokovic, Nadal, Federer, Wawrinka (although he has definitely been hot and cold since his big breakthrough down under), Nishikori, and maybe Andy Murray (hard to tell just where Andy’s head and body really is at from a confidence and health level).  So, great men’s match today, Nole wins, and women’s match, well all Serena as expected.  Brief respite as we await the start of the French Open next weekend…Memorial Day Weekend for those of us here in the good ole USA!

This afternoon…the NBA Eastern Conference finals gets underway with Miami at the Pacers…AT LAST!  Had to wonder if we were ever going to get here as the Pacers decided to take the adventurous route to this inevitable confrontation between the two best teams in the East.  GO PACERS!  I am sorry, I am still aboard the ABM club!  (Anybody but Miami!)

Tomorrow…OKC vs. Spurs in the West.  Like them both (but still love the Lakers) so hard to choose…love Westbrook and MVP Durant but I think I am pulling for the Spurs!

Later!

Final:  Pacers 107 – Heat 96!  Let’s go Pacers!!
