Epic match from down under

Last night, or in the wee hours of the morning, depending on where one lives, an epic match in the round of sixteen took place between world #1 Djokovic and the other Swiss, #15 Wawrinka.  What was expected to be a routine match turned into a 5 hour marathon match and one for the ages.  Djokovic prevailed, 1 – 6, 7 – 5, 6 – 4, 6- 7, 12 – 10.  No one should have to lose a match like this one.  Wawrinka was brilliant and Djoker showed his superb return and defensive skills, especially in the final and deciding game when he broke Wawrinka to take the match.  You could not help but see the pain Wawrinka felt after the match as there were tears in his eyes as he left the court to a rousing ovation (almost 2:00 am local time).  Congrats to Novak, but I have to say, I could have done without a repeat of the shirt ripping, chest pumping display (now we need to ask ourselves, What would Roger do?  Not that!)  Anyhow, Mr. Federer will be back in action tonight (wee hours, sometime, darn this time difference!) against Raonic and it will be a tough one for Fed.  Expect him to pull through and advance to the quarterfinals.  He has the most difficult and challenging bracket of the top four seeds.

In other action, Ferrer won in three sets, Berdych advanced and will play Djokovic in the quarters, Sharapova rolled to another easy victory, Li Na is into the quarterfinals, and very quietly, Radwanska continues to impress as she advances by defeating Ivanovic in two sets.

Rest of this afternoon becomes about NFL action, so get ready and enjoy.  But later, at least for me, it becomes all about Mr. Federer!
