The Fault in Our Stars..and sports

Saw The Fault in Our Stars today…bring Kleenex!  I had tissues and yes, I did use them.  Really poignant, touching, bittersweet story, so terribly sad but also so uplifting.  The love that these families had for their cancer stricken children and the love between the two young people, both terminal, well it was a beautiful thing.  Many of you may have read the book and know the story.  So many great moments and messages in the movie and the story.  One that resonated with me…We do not get to choose if we get hurt in the world, but we do get to choose who we get hurt by.  (Maybe not verbatim but you get the picture)  I enjoyed it, even though I was warned at the box office that I would be in a theater full of crying teenage girls.  There was a mixed crowd, and many cried.

OK..moving on to sports news…it was HOT in the AT & T Center in San Antonio, Texas last night where the Spurs hosted the defending champion Heat (hey, like the metaphor) in game one of the NBA Finals.  The A/C was broken…oh, the irony!  Anyhow, the Spurs were not broken and were hot…winning 110-95.  Tim Duncan (seeking his fifth title in his seventeen year career) scored 21 points with 10 rebounds.  Tony Parker played (injured ankle) and looked just fine as did Ginobili (16 points).  LeBron suffered cramps late in the fourth period after a layup and had to watch the closing minutes from the bench.  I kind of like the new format this year, 2-2-1-1-1.  So, the next game will be Sunday evening in San Antonio (expect the A/C to be working by then) and then the series will head to Miami for two games.  Really hope the Spurs can get it done this year!

Speaking of hot…it was hot in Paris today as well.  Novak Djokovic survived E. Gulbis in four sets, 6-3, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3.  Nole had a brief dip in the third, said after the match he felt a bit light headed but overcame his fatigue and rolled through in four sets.  Andy Murray looked like his legs were not moving and Nadal rolled over him in three straight sets, 6-3, 6-2, 6-1.  The match lasted a mere hour and forty minutes, not what we are used to when these two match up.  Murray may have been feeling the effects of that marathon match he had with Kolshreiber which lasted two days with Andy winning in the fifth set, 12-10.  Never the less, I think Nadal vs. Djokovic is the final we were all expecting.

Have a great Friday night!
