OK guys, Federer fans world wide can now breathe a sigh of relief…our guy got it done today in Paris, winning over Kevin Anderson, 6-4, 6-4, and has insured himself of a berth in the year end tournament in London next week. It will be his 12th consecutive appearance! (He trails only Andre Agassi at 14). Federer was very sharp in the first set, had a chance to serve it out at 5 -3 in the second, had a slight wobble but then prevailed 6 – 4. As I said, whew! Federer fans rejoice, our guy has made it into the tournament in the arena in London next week. Not to mention he advances to the third round in Paris at the Masters 1000 event and his next opponent will be P. Kolschreiber. Rafael Nadal won a tough two set match over fellow Spaniard M. Granollers, 7 – 5, 7 – 5. Other winners today, Stan Wawrinka, Milos Raonic, Thomas Berdych, J. Martin Del Potro, G. Dimitrov, and N. Almagro. The important thing here is simply this…Federer does indeed qualify for the year end final in London! GO FED!
Game six of the world series tonight from Boston. The Red Sox lead 3-2…does it end tonight? We shall see but I will also be watching the ABC hit drama Nashville, and when I say drama, I mean “drama”. I have also had a difficult time lately, having run across an old segment of the wonderful miniseries The Thorn Birds not too long ago. Now I have the DVD out and I cannot stop watching. This was such a wonderful miniseries, perhaps one of the very best every (numerous Emmy awards) and of course based on the incredible book by Colleen McCullough. But it is so sad, so heartbreaking, I think I may need an intervention. Perhaps, the World Series, Nashville, and Federer playing in Paris will help with this.
And finally, the weekly Wednesday special….promoting my book Surviving “Paradise” by Susan Willoch Shaver. There is drama. There is comedy. It will not make you cry and/or break your heart like The Thorn Birds, but it will make you smile and laugh at the sheer zaniness of these ridiculous people and circumstances in a neighborhood in southwest Florida. Check it out at Amazon.com for $8.99 in paperback, $4.99 in kindle edition, and $4.99 at Barnes and Noble nook.
