Whew! I know I am exhausted, I can only imagine how Roger Federer and his team feels. Roger Federer advances in five sets today over G. Simon, 6 – 1, 4 – 6, 2 – 6, 6 – 2, 6 – 3. THANK HEAVENS!!! Fed seemed in complete control of the match after the first set. He took an awkward tumble in the second set, and seemed to have an issue with both his wrist and ankle after taking a spill on the red clay. He proceed to drop the second and third set, looking very “unFederer like”. Then, the Roger we all know and love returned, he took the fourth and fifth set and will not face J. Tsonga in the quarters. A very tough match up but things look good for Federer. If he can make it through Tsonga, and likely Ferrer in the semifinals, then he will face the winner of the expected Djokovic-Nadal semifinal. So, that means only one of the other members of the big four (with Andy Murray out due to injury). Record wise, well let’s see, 36th consecutive quarterfinal match in a Grand Slam, 900th career win, and 58 match victory at the French Open, tied with G. Vilas. One more and he is the all time leader. What a match, I know golf is going on, but Tiger and Rory are both out of it, so I have to be honest, I only care that Federer survived this match!!
There were some other matches played (this is the one I cared about) but Ferrer advanced as did Tsonga and Robredo (also a tough five set victory). Serena Williams cruised and continues to look unbeatable. Kuznetsova upset Kerber and S. Errani overcame a stomach/breathing issue to defeat Saurez-Navarro in three sets. A. Radwanska is in action now and is up one set over Ana Ivanovic.
I am worn out. Way to go Fed!!
