The Final Four is set…Florida (over Dayton, 62-52, yes the clock struck midnight for this year’s Cinderella); Wisconsin over Arizona, 64-63 in OT ( I was pulling for Arizona); U Conn over Michigan State, 60-54; and finally, late this afternoon in a thriller, Kentucky over Michigan State, 75-72. Harrison shot the game winning three point shot with a hand in his face with 2.6 seconds left. Good defense, great offense? WOW!! So these four teams head to the Final Four next weekend in “north Texas”! How does your bracket look now? Mine has one…Florida…who I also have as the Champion. Stay tuned…if this weekend is any indication, it should be awesome!
In Miami, Novak Djokovic took the title in the Sony Open…with relative ease over Rafael Nadal, 6-3, 6-3. Nole was clinical over Nadal and he is now definitely on a roll. He lost in Dubai to Federer (yes!), then won a tough three set match (3rd set tie break) over Fed at Indian Wells, and now his second title in a row in Miami. We will head to the clay court season with the road to Roland Garros beginning…after a little Davis Cup action this week. Roger Federer and Stan Wawrinka will both be in action for the Swiss in Geneva. Meanwhile, Djokovic makes a strong statement with today’s relatively easy win over Nadal…is he ready to unseat the “King of Clay” in May? Maybe, maybe not…Rafa is almost impossible to beat on his beloved red clay and do not count out Roger either…he is back in top form and will be a factor heading into the French Open, and then the grass…Roger’s house at Wimbledon awaits in June!
Finally, the Indy Race series got underway today in St. Petersburg, Florida. It was surreal to see Dario Franchitti working for team Gnassi, not driving. Those of you who follow this sport know that Dario suffered a horrific accident last year in Houston and was told by his doctors that he could not (no matter what) continue racing. He was heartbroken (as were his fans). Non the less, he remains a part of the Gnassi Target race team and was on hand today to see his old nemesis, Will Power take the first race of the year. Power was followed by Ryan Hunter-Reay, then Helio Castoneves and finally, Scott Dixon in fourth, Dario’s former racing partner. Tony Kanaan (last year’s Indy 500 winner) now drives the number 10 Target car for Gnassi…really hard and strange to see! Great race, not a Will Power fan, but congrats to the winner…hope Dixon can have a good year and have to say, it is not the same without Dario behind the wheel. (His ex, Ashley Judd, has not stopped screaming as her beloved Kentucky Wildcats made the Final Four today!)
Until later…
