Well Jacket fans, once again we are at least better than the Dawgs in basketball! For the third year in a row, two straight times in Stedman Coliseum (not been done since 1960) the Yellow Jackets have come away victorious over the dawgs winning last night in Athens, 80 – 71. The score does not accurately represent how comprehensive a victory it was for Tech. They led throughout most of the second half by 12 to 15 points, and only in the closing minute did the dawgs get a couple of cheap scores with the game and the victory already in the bag. Biggest story of the game, Georgia Tech dominated on the boards and freshman Trae Golden scored nineteen points and was named player of the game. Daniel Miller had a double-double, 13 rebounds and 14 points. Gotta love that for Miller, especially since he originally signed with Georgia and then transferred to GT. (How often does than happen…almost never?) So, perhaps Georgia Tech will be a bit more competitive this year in round ball, current record is 3-0. The ACC is a beast of a conference this year with Syracuse, Pitt and Notre Dame. Then, next year Louisville will come aboard. The Dukies will be tough as always. Anyhow…a bit of good news for Tech fans after the beatdown at Clemson suffered by the football team.
College football action today underway. Hard to imagine but Duke controls their destiny in the race for the ACC Coastal. Quite a job by David Cutcliffe at Duke! Glad GT got them early this season. Big games will be UGA at 7 Auburn…look for this game to be close (or Not!) Tonight, 4 Stanford at USC and some folks (Lee Corso on Gameday) are picking the Trojans. Um…I think I am going with Stanford. Some of the signs in the crowd were priceless in case you guys missed Gameday on ESPN this am. Beautiful southern California day on the campus of USC (I have been there…for the LA Times Book festival to promote my book Surviving “Paradise”!) It was so much fun.
OK, until later…Oops…speaking of southern California, 13 UCLA beat Washington last night, 41- 31. (Washington QB Keith Price left the game with an injured shoulder and did not return)
