Great first Indy Race at St. Pete!

WOW!  What a start to the 2013 Indy Racing Series!  Great race today from St. Petersburg, FL.  Weather not so good, is the weather good anywhere? Oh, yes, in Southern California…OK, that is a completely different topic.  Anyhow, first of all, David Letterman was in attendance.  Letterman is a huge Indy race fan, and is part owner of the Rahal-Rahal (father-son) racing team.  Now, for the bad news for me.  My guy, Dario Franchitti, four time series champ, goes out after 19 laps, crashing into the wall coming out of the pit on cold tires.  Bummer, bummer, bummer.  Not a good start to the year for Dario.

James Hinchcliffe in the Go Daddy car wins his first Indy race.  Congrats to him!  Tremendous race for him and the Go Daddy team.  Helio Castroneves (remember the DWTS champ) finishes in second and Marco Andretti takes third to round out the podium.  Tony Kanaan finished fourth and Scott Dixon (Dario’s racing partner along with Charlie Kimball) comes from way back in the field to take the 5th place finish.  Great race by Dixon.  A lot of emotion at this race as Dan Wheldon Way was again recognized in honor of Dan, who was tragically killed in a race a year and a half ago.  Dan’ family, wife Suzi and two young children make their home in the St. Pete area and she was at the race.  Will never forget watching that tragic event and being on the phone with my friend and Indy insider as we waited for the bad news to unfold.  Happier day today in St. Pete.  Great first race for the Indy series.  Hope Dario can get things on track.  His big competitor, Will Power had a disappointing finish in 16th place.

Next race is April 7th from Alabama.
