Kobe Bryant, the old guy at 34, is doing work! He is flat out getting it done as he tries to somehow guide the Lakers into the postseason. Last night in Portland, Kobe had 47 points (a season high), 8 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 blocked shots. He scored 28 points in the first half alone. The Lakers trailed by four in the final period and proceeded to go on a 21 – 10 run to finish with a 113 – 106 victory over the Trail Blazers on the road in Portland. This victory puts the Lakers into the 8th playoff spot, one game ahead of Utah with three games remaining. The remaining games are all at the Staples Center but are against teams who have all made the playoffs. This is going right down to the wire. One thing is for certain however, in a season that has seen the Lakers struggle and be downright embarrassing to watch at times, Kobe has had one of his finest years. He simply wills this team to win and involves his teammates in the action with skill and savvy in the most intricate of situations and circumstances. Gasol and Howard are finally both excelling in the paint and complimenting one another. Gasol had 23 points last night and Howard added 20 points. Now, they need Steve Nash back and Metta World Peace (must have his defense). Stay tuned, three games and counting to see if Kobe can life the Lakers on his shoulders and carry them into the playoffs!
