Kobe Bryant’s 24 points lifts Lakers over Grizzlies

Kobe Bryant had 24 points and 9 assists as the Lakers survived the Grizzlies at home in the Staples Center last night, 86 – 84.  Pau Gasol added 19 points and Earl Clark (huge contributor for the Lakers coming off the bench) had a monster block of a shot by the Grizzlies Marc Gasol late in the game that was highlight reel worthy.  So where are the Lakers now?  The are in the 8th playoff spot, 1/2 game over the Jazz.  Unfortunately for the Lakers, should they end up in a tie with the Jazz, Utah holds the tiebreak.  Look for Kobe and company to not let that happen with six games remaining!  Credit to Coach D’Antoni for seemingly finally having figured out how to use Gasol both in the paint and as a passer along with Howard on the floor.  Hopefully it will not be too little, too late.  Remember, we have been given a guarantee by Kobe, Dwight and Nash (currently injured).  Next up for the Lakers, the high flying Clippers on Sunday at 3:00 pm EST.  After all, what would the playoffs be without the Lakers!!

Staying in the NBA, Carmelo Anthony scored 41 points to lead the Knicks to their eleventh straight victory .  They defeated  the Bucks, 101 – 83.    The Knicks are currently in second place in the East as the Miami Heat have clinched the number one position.
