Lakers and Celtics, on verge of elimination?

Two storied NBA franchises, the Boston Celtics and and the LA Lakers, both stand on the doorstep of elimination from the first round of the playoffs!  Very Sad!  The Celtics, well, they are just old, and missing their point guard and play maker Rajon Rondo.  The Lakers, well as I have said in an earlier post, what do you do about a problem that is the Lakers?  First of all, they are missing their superstar, Kobe Bryant, who literally put them on his back and carried them to the finish line to get into the playoffs before going down with an Achilles tear.  Then, World Peace, well he has to have piles of fluid drained from his surgically repaired knee before every game, just to try and play.  Steve Nash is out, hip and other ailments.  Steve Blake, filling in admirably at guard, but still, when you have to mention this, it kind of says it all, is out with a hamstring injury.  Jodie Meeks, out with ankle injury.  Now, World Peace will likely miss game 4 on Sunday at the Staples Center.  Both teams will face elimination in their home arenas before their adoring fans on Sunday.  The Celtics fell to the NY Knicks last night, 90 – 76.  Call me crazy, but look for the Knicks to make some noise in the East.  The Lakers, well it was just so painful to watch, it is almost too difficult to write about.  Led by Andrew Goudelock and Darius Morris along with Gasol, Howard and World Peace (trying to play inspite of his injury), the Lakers were embarrassed at home, suffering their worst playoff loss ever in the Staples Center, 120 – 89.  Now, credit Goudelock, he gave it his all, scoring 20 points and Morris added 24 points.  Howard had 25 points and 11 rebounds and Gasol had a triple double (his first in a playoff game), 11 points, 13 rebounds, and 10 assists.  The result, a 31 point loss!  Credit the great Tim Duncan of the Spurs, 26 points, 9 rebounds, and point guard extraordinaire Tony Parker, 20 points and 7 assists for sure.  But who in the heck do the Lakers have to put on the floor to play one of the best teams in the NBA?  Kobe was in the house, but not on the bench in a suit along with Nash and Blake.  This is just very sad, especially since I love LA.  Oh well, Sunday will be here before we know it, so stay tuned…

Elsewhere, Golden State edged Denver, 110 – 108 with superb performances in the game from Stephen Curry and Jarrett Jack (former GT star, GO JACKETS!).

Important to note, with Russell Westbrook out due to injury for OKC, can the Spurs perhaps make a run at the Western Conference title?  I would have to say yes, but I still think OKC matches up better against the Heat, provided they can get by the Knicks should they meet for the Eastern Conference title.
