Well, the BCS Poll came out last night and to quote FSU legendary and beloved former head coach Bobby Bowden, “Dadgumit” Sorry Seminole fans but I do not think it is fair. Why was Oregon penalized for not playing, by the way they have a monster game coming up this Thursday night at 5 Stanford? Moreover, Alabama was resting this past weekend as well and no penalty there. Granted, FSU was impressive in their victory over the then ranked 7 Miami Hurricanes, (over ranked for sure!) but it was only in the second half that they dominated and they were at home. This does not mean that when all the dust settles, FSU will not indeed have earned the right to play for the BCS title. Just think that once again disrespect shown to Oregon and the strength of the Pac 12. So, now that I have that off my chest…here is the current new BCS top ten:
1 Alabama, 2 FSU, 3 Oregon (dadgumit!), 4 Ohio State, 5 Stanford (thank you) 6 Baylor (perhaps underrated?), 7 Clemson (not sure on this one?), 8 Missouri, 9 Auburn (that Iron Bowl game with Bama is gonna be special!) and 10 Oklahoma.
So, some things will begin to ebb and flow after this week/weekend. 3 Oregon will play at 5 Stanford on Thursday night (9:00 pm EST on ESPN). Also, 10 Oklahoma will face off against 6 Baylor. There should be a whole lot of scoring in that one! And finally, Saturday night on ABC at 8:00 pm EST, LSU will face 1 Alabama in Tuscaloosa. That is also where we will find College Gameday this coming Saturday.
So in the end…winning will take care of it all perhaps? I do not think all three of these teams arrive at the end of the season (conference championship games included) undefeated. FSU has the easiest road ahead, only a injured and likely angry Florida team at the end of the season and then perhaps Miami (without RB Duke Johnson, broken ankle) or Virginia Tech in the ACC Championship game. Alabama has 13 LSU and 9 Auburn and then possibly 8 Missouri or 12 South Carolina in the SEC Championship game. Bama has a very tough road ahead. 3 Oregon has 5 Stanford, a very tricky game on the road against Arizona, their rivalry game with Oregon State, and a potential rematch with 19 UCLA if they win out and play in the Pac 12 Championship game. Alabama and Oregon have the tougher roads ahead of them so FSU can just continue to play and impress. But, if Oregon and Alabama do continue on and win out, I believe that is who we will see in the BCS title game. So ….we shall continue to wait and see.
Moving to tennis…ATP Year End Final gets underway today in London. Wawrinka took out Berdych (let’s hear it for Stan the man!) ESPN.com has confusing info on their site…have both Del Potro facing Gasquet today and Federer facing Gasquet today as well. Sounds like an impossible task for Richard Gasquet to me. I believe that Mr. Federer will not play until tomorrow. If I am correct, he will face Novak Djokovic in the last match of the day…come one Roger…beat him this time!
Until later…
