Latest BCS Poll and Djokovic wins year end tennis title

Well, the year in tennis has come to an end (as a devoted Roger Federer fan, I can only say thank heavens and may 2014 bring better results for the Swiss Maestro!) and Novak Djokovic has won the World Tour Final from London for the second year in a row.  2 Djokovic defeated #1 Rafael Nadal with relative ease today, 6 – 3, 6 – 4.  Has to be a bit consoling to Novak who lost the world number 1 ranking to Rafa a few weeks ago.  That huge paycheck probably won’t hurt either!  Interestingly, I would like to point out that Roger Federer forced a tough three set match upon Djokovic just a few short days ago.  (Last year Djokovic defeated Federer to win this title)  Anyhow, #2 Djokovic wins the coveted title again and congrats to him!

Latest BCS Poll was revealed last night: 1 Alabama, 2 FSU, 3 Ohio State, 4 Stanford (thank you, glad to see some poll rewarded their victory over Oregon!), 5 Baylor (top three beware, they are coming!), 6 Oregon (second year in a row they lose their shot at title game due to loss to Stanford), 7 Auburn, 8 Clemson, 9 Missouri, and 10 South Carolina.

So, a bit of difference in the BCS Poll from both the AP and the Coaches Polls (see yesterday’s post).  Other notables: Texas A & M is #11, UCLA is #13, UCF is #17, LSU #21, Miami falls to #23, and I forgot to mention the dawgs, UGA re-enters all polls at #25.

In NFL news, Peyton Manning and the Broncos won a narrow victory over the San Diego Chargers late yesterday, 28 – 20 after leading early 21 – 6.  It was a glorious day in southern California, I want to point out that fact simply because I hate cold weather!  Most importantly, Peyton Manning and the Broncos received good news today when an MRI on his inured ankle revealed that he still has a high ankle sprain but there was no further damage.  This is especially important since the 8 – 1 Broncos will host the division leading (and surprising) Kansas City Chiefs, 9 – 0, this Sunday in Denver.  Peyton will play!

Moving on to a pop culture tidbit…finally went to the theater and saw a movie (not on the couch on demand but actually in the theater!).  About Time with Rachel McAdams and a cute red headed fellow I do not know the name of starred along with some other big names…this movie was by Richard Curtis, Love Actually fame.  It was a sweet movie, a bit too long, kind of moved slowly in places, but still a wonderful father/son relationship story with a great life message.  What is the message?  Live each day, no matter your circumstances, with joy in your heart as if it could be your very last day.  Enjoy life, the present is exactly what it implies…a GIFT!  So, I cannot say I would tell you to go spend your $10 to $15 to see it in the theater, but it was enjoyable.  I am anxiously looking forward to Dallas Buyers Club arriving at the theater near me.  They are calling it a career defining performance by Matthew McConaughey.   I love McConaughey, so if it is career defining, I will be there.

Until later…Good day!
