Mr. Federer sails through first match at Wimbledon

Mr. Federer sailed through his first match at Wimbledon (on Court 1, not Centre Court, oh, the horror!) with ease, defeating Lorenzi of Italy, 6-1, 6-1, 6-3.  Nice, easy “practice round” type of match to warm up Roger for this year’s Wimbledon quest.  What is the nonsense about age…32 approaching 33 with four children (two sets of twins, one just over a month old)..hey, age is a number!  Just like a fine wine..we all get better with age…(we hope!!)  Anyhow, Roger looked great and ready to rock and roll.  Hopefully, no disturbing early exit this year like last year.  Meanwhile, Rafael Nadal had a bit of an adjustment period, dropping the first set to Klizan of Slovakia (a fellow “lefty”) 4-6.  He then got it together and rolled to a 6-3, 6-3, 6-3 four set win.  Next up for Rafa, non other than that guy named Lukas, Lukas Rosol that is, the one who took him out in 2012!  John Isner of the USA won in three sets, and none of them were tie break sets!  (WHAT?)  Speaking of “old” guys..Rusty (Leyton Hewitt) won in a four set match today as well.  Let’s hear it for old people!! Ha Ha…

Sharapova won going away, 6-0, 6-1, Serena won her match, 6-1, 6-2 and served up sixteen aces, S. Halep looks like she is ready to be a force at the All England Club, winning her match 6-2, 6-2 and E. Bouchard won a tough two set match, 7-5, 7-5.  S. Lisicki opened “Ladies Day” on Centre Court with a two set win as well.  Ana Ivanovic had a tough opening match, facing Schiavone of Italy, but came through 7-6, 6-4.  Postponed from the rain delay yesterday, completed matches today saw Wawrinka advance in three sets, Tsonga completed his five set win over J. Meltzer, and both Radwanska and Wozniacki won going away in two easy sets.

Tomorrow, more of Djokovic and Murray.

In NBA news….LeBron James will opt out of the remaining two years on his five year contract with the Miami Heat and become a free agent.  So…will he stay or will he go?  Gee, I hope this does not mean we are in store for another “Decision”…Decision part deux.  Probably not.  I say go to LA…who would not want to go to LA..the Lakers will welcome him and Kobe is in his last two years…hey, what a world it could be???  Instead of “Mama there goes that man..it could be “Mama there goes those men”!  Oh well, I hear the Bulls are in the mix and who knows…he could end up keeping his talents at South Beach.  All makes for interesting headlines.

Speaking of interesting headlines…how about the “biter”, Saurez at the World Cup.  He bit an Italian player in today’s match and that now makes it “three bites”.  Gee, didn’t his mama teach him better?

OK….enough for now.  Until later!
