Nadal secures #1, Fed wins today, CFB and of course, Surviving “Paradise”

It is Thursday and I am a day late (and unfortunately a dollar short always)!  Wednesday is the day I promote my book Surviving “Paradise” by Susan Willoch Shaver, but this week, it is on Thursday.  So first things first, please check out my book Surviving “Paradise” at Amazon.com for $8.99 in paperback, $4.99 kindle edition and also $4.99 at Barnes and Noble nook.  There is now a special deal at Amazon where if you buy the paperback, you get a kindle edition for $1.99!  This story is entertaining and full of ridiculous drama and comedy.  Follow a southern woman who relocates to a new town in southwest Florida only to encounter neighborhood mayhem extraordinaire.  It will make you laugh and relate to what can only be described as a crazy and bumpy ride through the perils of finding oneself in the wrong place at the wrong time in Sarasota, FL!

OK, now to sports!  Rafael Nadal secured the year end #1 ranking in tennis yesterday with a hard fought victory over Stan Wawrinka, 7 – 5, 7 – 5.  It was a heartbreaking loss for Stan but what a story for Rafa.  Out of tennis for almost nine months rehabbing his injured knees only to return to arguably the best year of his career.  Congrats to Rafa from a devoted Roger Federer fan!  Berdych defeated David Ferrer in two sets yesterday as well.  Today, Roger Federer prevailed over Richard Gasquet, 6 – 4, 6 – 3.  It was a dominating performance by Fed, yet one that was also symbolic of the rocky year he has had this year.  He won, but he also wobbled on some important points.  He is still capable of the brilliance that has made so many of us fall in love with Roger Federer the player (and the person) but he also showed the lack of confidence in some important moments closing out the match that have plagued him all year long.  In his own words, “it has been a difficult year for sure, I have felt rattled at times”.  Well, Roger, we all know what that is like.  Who among us has not felt rattled and unsure as we navigate our way through changing times and circumstances.  Still, this man who has brought us moments in tennis that will never be equaled continues to fight his way through these times and show the emotion and frustration of someone who deeply cares and wants to regain his form and game and win another title.  You go Roger…we will NEVER give up on you.  I believe he will win another title, hopefully a Grand Slam title in 2014.  For now, this win means Roger is not out of the ATP Year End Championships.  He will have a very important match up with Del Potro on Saturday.  If he wins, he likely will advance from Group B to the semifinals.  Today, Novak Djokovic is facing off against Del Potro and has taken the first set, 6 – 3.  What happens in this match is certainly going to effect the semifinals.  That being said,  Federer must win on Saturday!  Coverage of this final tennis event of the year is moving back and forth between Tennis Channel and ESPN2, depending on college football.  So check yourbook_cover_c_rev1ed local listings.  I believe Federer vs. Del Potro on Saturday will be on Tennis Channel.

Speaking of college football, monster game tonight on ESPN, 3 Oregon at 5 Stanford.  Oregon must win out to secure a spot in the BCS title game.  2 FSU has a pretty easy road ahead of them.  1 Alabama has a very tough schedule ahead, not the least of which will be on display on Saturday night on ABC when 13 LSU visits Tuscaloosa.  Also on tonight, 6 Baylor (maybe the most underrated team in the country?) will face 10 Oklahoma.  Great night of college football in store for tonight.

Back later with final results of Del Potro vs. Djokovic!  Update:  Del Potro takes the second set 6 -3 so it is going three!  Final, Djokovic over Del Potro, 6 – 3, 3 – 6, 6 – 3.  Djokovic guarantees himself a spot in the semifinals and that Federer vs. Del Potro match on Saturday will determine who advances along with him!  GO FED!
