Roger Federer news

World number 2 Roger Federer (#1 in my heart) returns to action next week at the Dubai Open.  Roger has a residence in Dubai (it is great to be Roger, also great to be Mirka!) and he and world #1 Djokovic are the top seeds at next week’s event.  Coverage begins this Monday on Tennis Channel.  He will next compete at the Paribas Open in Indian Wells, CA.  Fed has announced that after that tournament he will be taking two months off before the clay court swing begins.  He will be shifting into “husband” and “daddy” mode as he plans a family vacation and then will return to Switzerland (another home) to practice on clay courts and ready himself for his return to competition in May at the Madrid Open.  This will be followed of course by the French Open.

Federer will skip the mandatory Masters 1000 event in Miami after Indian Wells, which is allowed due to the fact that he 31 years old, he has played more than 600 matches and has been on the tennis tour for 12 years.  Hey, I would choose southern California over Miami, FL any day of the week.  Pretty cool that he has his priorities straight at this time in his career.  He talks openly about wanting to continue to compete for a number of years if possible but at the same time hoping he will know when the time is right for him to walk away.  He also does not rule out the possibility of regaining the #1 world ranking.  Prior to this bit of news, Roger has been spending time in South Africa in support of his foundation.

Looking forward to watching Roger compete in Dubai and then in Indian Wells, CA!!
