How about a few more results from the Sony Open in Miami! Venus Williams won in three sets yesterday, defeating Dellacque of USA! So nice to see Venus back to winning matches. Also, Caroline Wozniacki took American Sloane Stephens to school, dispatching her 6-1, 6-0. Tough loss for the young American. G. Dimitrov (Sharapova’s guy) was taken out by K. Nishikori of Japan in two sets, 7-6, 7-5 (close but no cigar for Grigor!). David Ferrer took care of A. Seppi to advance. Roger Federer is hot on the heals of Ferrer, currently ranked #4 while Fed is ranked #5, but trails him by a mere 100 points in the rankings. Since Roger did not play Miami last year, any points he picks up here are “gravy” and he has no points to defend. Really nice to see Ferrer back in action after being out with an injury. I though Novak Djokovic was going to take the court against F. Mayer of Germany but it seems like it has been days since Nole played. Not sure what happened, too late, weather? (OK, got the word..he got a walkover!) Anyhow, it is raining in Miami right now and Serena Williams is up on K. Vanderweghe of the USA, 4-2 in the first set. Serena is not looking her best, but still she is a force, even when not at her best. The great thing about rain delays in Miami…they show replays of Roger Federer’s matches!!! Also on the schedule for today, Nadal vs. Istomin, Wawrinka vs. Edouard-Roger Vasselin, and Isner vs. Almagro. Will have to wait and see how the weather affects the schedule. (Update: rain stops, Serena cruises, 6-3, 6-1!)
Moving on to “the Dance”, how about Kentucky taking out Wichita State…the first loss of the year for the latter. Kentucky won in a thriller, 78-76 to advance to the Sweet Sixteen. Funny thing…that was the one upset I got right in my bracket!! Who would have known?
Finally…fans of The Good Wife are in an uproar today after last night’s episode. Will Gardner, former co-worker and lover of lead character played by Julianna Margulies was killed last night by a deranged client in a courtroom episode, nut-job with a gun gone array kind of scene. What a shocker! Really kind of disappointing…but apparently Josh Charles who played the character of Will elected to not renew his contract..unknown to all of us, of course. Really bummed!
