Sports, Pop Culture and Survivng “Paradise”

Sports, Pop Culture and Surviving “Paradise” on Wednesday, 5/21/14!!  But first, let’s hear it for hero cat “Tara” who saved a four year little boy under attack in his driveway from a raging dog…check it out on YouTube and ESPN.  Go Tara!!

First up, news from tennis and golf…Rory Mcilroy breaks off his engagement to tennis star Caroline Wozniacki.  Bit of a shocker?  Rory is in Surrey, England preparing to play in the BMW PGA Championship which gets underway tomorrow.  I assume Wozniacki is preparing to play in the French Open which gets underway from Paris, France this Sunday.  So, announcements were sent out this weekend, rumors swirled of a September wedding in New York City (likely after the US Open tennis tournament) and now, it is over?  Quite sad.  I am sure Wozniacki is devastated as word is Rory called it off saying he was just not ready for “all that marriage entailed”.  In his interview on ESPN, he seems to be hurting as well.  There has been talk of them breaking up prior, they got engaged on New Year’s Eve after dating since 2011 (they met at a boxing match).  Anyhow…very unhappy ending for these two at this point..SAD.

NBA finals are finally in full swing.  Have to say, I miss LA, that would be the Lakers and Kobe.  That being said, I am pulling for the Spurs in the West and the Pacers in the East.  The Spurs took care of OKC in game one, 122-105 and game two is tonight.  The Thunder, even with Westbrook and league MVP Durant (CONGRATS and well deserved) are in trouble without the services of their big guy in the middle, Serge Ibaka.  Going to be a tall order to take out the Spurs without him.  The Spurs were oh so close to taking out the Heat last year in the NBA finals…game six…could have and should have so is this going to be the year?  Meanwhile, the Heat evened their series with the Pacers in Indy last night, 87-83 thanks to a fourth quarter virtuoso performance by King James and Wade, they finished with 22 points and 23 points respectively.  I would so love to see the Pacers win the Eastern Conference finals but losing that home game and heading back to Miami at 1-1 is worrisome.

Lucky Cavs for the second year in a row!  The Cleveland Cavilers won the lottery and will get the number one pick in the NBA draft for the second year in a row.  So who will they take?  Likely Andrew Wiggins of Kansas.  Meanwhile, the Lakers are #7.  There is just so much that is wrong with that…but they do need to make the most of that draft pick for sure!!

Most of our favorite TV shows have wrapped up for this season.  Last night…no New Girls, The Mindy Project, and About a Boy (my current favorite on Tuesday night!!).  Love this show which is based on the book by Nick Hornby and the great movie by the same name starring Hugh Grant.  Nashville wrapped up last Wednesday but don’t despair…Motive resumes tonight at 10:00 pm on ABC.  If you have not seen this great show before…check it out.  It is the most popular detective show in Canada and the leads are sassy and great.  This show gives you the victim and the perpetrator in the first few minutes and then works backwards for the remainder to unfold the drama.  Really great show.  (I have done posts about this show previously, check it out in the search provided on the Home page!)

And finally..it is Surviving “Paradise” the book day.  Please check out my book Surviving “Paradise” by Susan Willoch Shaver.  Follow a southern woman who relocates to a new town full of great expectations only to be met by a ridiculous set of people and circumstances.  Full of great humor and drama!!  Look for more info on the Home page at this website and check out the Buy the Book option on the menu bar.  Thanks and have a great “Hump Day”!Surviving Paradise
