Spurs win Western Conference title, 93 – 86 over Grizzlies

The San Antonio spurs advanced to the NBA Championship with a victory over the Memphis Grizzlies last night, 93 – 86.  They will be making their first appearance in the title game since 2007, but their fifth since 1999.  The Western Conference Champion Spurs were the #2 seed going into the playoffs, with OKC being #1.  Obviously, the loss of Russell Westbrook hurt OKC, but the Spurs are a picture of beautiful teamwork at its best.  Tony Parker was on fire, scoring 37 points last night, driving into the paint for layups and dishing the ball to teammates when appropriate.  San Antonio shot 74% from the field in the first half!  This Spurs team is almost poetry when it comes to playing together and complimenting each other.  Take nothing away from Memphis, they have had a tremendous season and Marc Gasol, defensive player of the year, is just as classy as his brother, Pau who plays for the Lakers.  When Parker went down with an inadvertent eye injury due to his attempt to block his shot, Gasol went over to the sideline to help Parker as opposed to running down the court with his team as play continued.  Hats off to Memphis, Gasol, Randolph, Conley, and the rest of the team along with their coaches and fans.  In the end, they were simply swept (yep, get out the brooms, 4 -0) by a better team with better players.  So, who will the Spurs face in the Championship series?

Eastern Conference finals continue tonight between Pacers and Miami Heat from Indy with game four at 8:30 pm EST on TNT.  Miami leads 2 -1.
