Sunday Sports Updates…

First, a couple of final College Football scores from Saturday:  FSU 33 – Miami 20 and Oregon State 21 – Utah 7

Both the AP and the Coaches polls are out.  The top five are identical: 1 Alabama, 2 Oregon, 3 Florida, 4 Kansas State, and 5 Notre Dame.  (I am glad to see Oregon return to no. 2!!)  The next five is where they differ.  The AP poll has the following to round out the top ten: 6 LSU, 7 Oregon State, 8 Oklahoma, 9 Ohio State, and 10 USC.  The Coaches Poll has 6 LSU,  7 Oklahoma, 8 USC, 9 Oregon State and 10 FSU.  The second BCS poll will be out tonight and the burning question is who will be number 2????

NFL action today features an intriguing QB match up between RG III and the Redskins visiting Eli Manning and the New York Giants.  Currently in the 2nd quarter, game is tied 10-10.  Also on, the Ravens visit Houston (Houston leads 16-3 in the 2nd qtr.)  Later, the other New York team, the Jets will travel to Foxboro and take on the Patriots.  Both of these teams are 3-3 for the year so one will end up with a winning record, the other a losing record after today’s action.  Have to bet on New England at home.

Monday Night Football will feature Pittsburgh at Cincinnati.  Pittsburgh has been surprisingly bad so far this year and has a 0-3 road record.

NLCS game 6 on tonight as well.  The Giants will host the Cards who lead in the series 3-2.  In other baseball news, it is being reported that the Boston Red Sox will hire John Farrell (current manager of Toronto Blue Jays) to be their new manager, replacing the fired Bobby Valentine.

Another bit of sports news:  Missy Franklin, the US swimmer and media darling of the London Olympics (“call me maybe?” video fame as well) has announced she will attend the University of California and be a part of the Cal Bears swim team after graduating from high school this spring.  Good for her!
