Surprise results in Davis Cup action…Final Four underway

A bit of a shock in Davis Cup action today from Geneva, Switzerland.  Roger Federer and Stan Wawrinka fell in four tough sets to the team from Kazakhstan (two of the sets they lost were decided by tie breaks).  Wawrinka wobbled throughout the match with his play at the net while Federer was the more steadier of the two, although he did drop his serve in the opening game of the first set.  So…tomorrow, trailing 1-2, the Swiss will need to win BOTH singles matches to advance to the semifinals of Davis Cup action.  Wawrinka is up first, Federer next if Wawrinka can get it done.  At least, that is the plan as of late today.  (Psst… Happy Birthday Mirka, Fed’s wife, who celebrated her 36th this past week!!)

Andy Murray won his delayed due to darkness singles match and then came back again today to team with Colin Flemming to win the doubles over the Italian team of Fognini and Botelli.  Great Britain leads 2-1 going into tomorrows singles matches.

The French pulled to 1-2 after sitting at 0-2 after yesterday’s results facing off against the German team.  They won the doubles so the action tomorrow will be important.  It was expected that the French would play the Swiss in the semifinal but both teams find themselves at 1-2 heading into tomorrow.  Yikes…did not see this coming, especially Fed and Stan the man going down in doubles action!

The Czech team will advance over Japan, already up 3-0.  Nishikori and Berdych are both MIA.

And at long last…the Final Four is underway from Dallas.  U Conn leads Florida at the half, 25 – 22.  Calm down…it is halftime!  Wisconsin and Kentucky will follow this game.

Until later…

Turn out the lights…the Florida Gators are out!  U Conn wins 63-53!!  What a performance.  Is Napier the best point guard in the country?  Huskies into the title game.  Next up…Wisconsin vs. Kentucky?  Picks…are you kidding…my bracket is toast!

Kentucky 74 – Wisconsin 73.  Harrison hits three point shot with 5+ seconds to go!  This game was incredible!  What a game, heartbreak for the Badgers.  Kentucky vs. U Conn for that “shinning moment” on Monday night!   Oh my….
