Surviving “Paradise” day plus sports and pop culture!

Surviving ParadiseIt is Wednesday and yes, this week I remembered the event du jour…promoting my book Surviving “Paradise” by Susan Willoch Shaver.  It is available at Amazon.com for $8.99 in paperback, $4.99 kindle edition and $4.99 at Barnes and Noble nook.  It is COLD outside so while not curl up with a funny and entertaining read like Surviving “Paradise”!  Follow a southern woman who relocates to a new town in southwest Florida only to be met by a ridiculous set of people and circumstances.  There are Bulgarian criminal neighbors, a horny, inappropriate cop, a jealous bitchy wife, a redneck homeowners’ association President (Redneck Prez) and other nefarious and unsettling folks and events that abound in this tale of neighborhood mayhem that is so crazy you simply cannot make it up!  But, hey, I did!

Moving on to some sports stuff…college basketball all day yesterday on ESPN.  2 Michigan State took out 1 Kentucky, 78 – 74 in a good one.  The Dukies lost!  4 Duke went down to 5 Kansas, 94 – 83.  Close game in the first half, not so much in the second half.  Andrew Wiggins led the Jayhawks with 22 points.  Freshman sensation, Jabari Parker for Duke did not disappoint, even in the loss.

Unsettling news coming out of Denver today…Peyton Manning with the injured ankle (high ankle sprain) did not practice.  The division leading and undefeated Kansas City Chiefs come a calling in Denver this Sunday.  I expect Manning to be ready and able.

College football this weekend (beginning on Thursday night) will offer the two teams from Georgia, GT and UGA, facing off against the #7 and #8 teams in the nation.  On Thursday night, Georgia Tech makes the trip to Death Valley to take on #8 Clemson.  Will be interesting to see if the progress the Jackets seem to have made in the past few weeks makes this a good game or a blow out.  On Saturday, UGA travels to the “loveliest little village on the plains”, taking on #7 Auburn at Auburn.  I have been to Auburn (GT vs. Auburn in 2005 and the Jackets won, with Reggie Ball at QB!).  It really is quite lovely and the people were very warm and welcoming.  Do not expect the Tigers to be warm and welcoming to the Dawgs.  UGA is still a very good team, injury depleted and all, so should be a good game.  Utah (perhaps that Stanford loss to this team was not so bad after seeing how tough a schedule Utah plays) will visit Oregon in Eugene.  The Quack Attack will look to get back on track after the disappointing and costly loss at Stanford last Thursday night.  Meanwhile, Stanford will travel to southern California to take on USC (oh, it is so lovely there, 86 degrees today!)  Florida, reeling with a losing record will take on S. Carolina.  Many great games on tap for our viewing pleasure, beginning on Thursday and extending through Saturday night.

For the ladies out there, Hallmark Channel will begin running all new Christmas chick flicks this Saturday.  They will air every Saturday and Sunday night between now and the new year.  For guys and gals alike, ABC hit drama Nashville will air tonight at 10:00 pm EST.

Over and out for today!
