Takuma Sato wins first Indy race, Long Beach, CA

Takuma Sato won his first ever Indy race today in Long Beach, CA.  It was an absolutely beautiful day in southern California, the setting could not have been more perfect for this long standing race.  Dario Franchitti started in the pole position and led for 27 laps of the race.  Dario was looking to turn his lackluster season around with a good finish here and he did achieve that with a final 4th place finish.  Still, not the first place finish he would have liked.  The podium finish is as follows: 1 Sato, 2 Rahal (that would be Graham Rahal, Rahal-Rahal racing with Dave Letterman as co-owner) and 3 Justin Wilson.  Congrats to Sato, great race by this young driver.  Will Power and Ryan Hunter-Reay both went out with crashes, Power the victim of a hit in the pit area.  Too bad, so sad.  Sorry, just not a Will Power fan.  Anyhow, big mover of the day had to be Dario’s teammate Scott Dixon, starting in the 26th position and finishing in 10th place.  Nice bit of driving by Dixon!  Glad to see Dario finish in 4th, move up in the points standing (started the day in last place) and hopefully will be the start of better things to come as we head towards the Indy 500.  Next race is in two weeks, May 5th in Brazil and then, the big one, Indy 500 on May 26th.  Stay tuned Indy race fans…it is going to get interesting.  Gotta say again, what a beautiful day and setting in Long Beach, California.  200,000 race fans in attendance and I think they would all agree, great race in a great setting!
