Tennis rankings and more!

New tennis rankings came out on Monday (6/9) and a few changes…Men’s top ten: 1. Rafael Nadal, 2. Novak Djokovic (Nole could have become #1 with a win in the final at the French Open), 3. Stan Wawrinka (held onto third place despite an early exit at Roland Garros), 4. Roger Federer (thank heavens Fed stayed at #4 inspite of a disappointing fourth round loss in Paris), 5. Andy Murray (welcome back), 6. Thomas Berdych, 7. David Ferrer (dropping from #5), 8. Del Potro (been out quite awhile with wrist surgery), 9. Milos Raonic (so glad to see him in top ten), and 10. E. Gulbis (not so glad to see him in top ten but he is on a roll!)

Women’s top ten: 1. Serena Williams, 2. Li Na, 3. S. Halep (moves up from #4 after making the final at Roland Garros), 4. A. Radwanska (slips one place), 5. Maria Sharapova (moves up from #8 after winning second French Open in three years), 6. P. Kvitova (so talented, yet so unpredictable), 7. J. Jankovic, 8. Victoria Azarenka (she has been out since early exit at Indian Wells with foot injury), 9. A. Kerber and 10. D. Cibulkova

Now, Wimbledon looms so these rankings are important, especially for the top men.  It determines just how tough a road they will have making it into the all important second week.  Meanwhile, both Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal are in Halle, Germany competing the grass court event held there this week.  They should both play their first matches tomorrow.  Should be really interesting if they could meet in the final, Nadal seeded #1, Fed #2.  Roger is the defending champion (the only title he won in 2013) and has won this tournament six times.  So…here’s to Roger making a great statement in Halle before Wimbledon.

NBA action continues tonight with the Spurs visiting Miami for game three.  Hugely disappointing (and perhaps costly) loss in game two at home on Sunday night.  I think they are really going to have to steal one of these two games in Miami to have a shot at winning the finals!  Again, Jimmy Kimmel pregame show airs before the broadcast…it is tradition!

Came across an interesting new show last night on TNT..Murder in the First.  It stars Taye Diggs (loved him on Private Practice, so glad to see him back on a good, entertaining show)!  He is a cop whose wife is dying of cancer and his partner is played by the cute blonde who starred in the brief reboot of Charlies Angels.  It looks very promising…airs at 10:00 pm EST on Mondays.

Enjoy your evening!
