Tennis results from Monte Carlo on Thursday!

The results are in from tennis action this Thursday in Monte Carlo and the quarterfinals are up next (tomorrow live beginning at 5:30 am EST!)  Djokovic waltzed through his match over P. Carreno Busta, 6-1, 6-0; Nadal (looking better than he did in his previous match) advanced over A. Seppi, 6-1, 6-3; Tsonga over Fognini, 4-7, 6-3, 6-0 (his prize, a quarterfinal matchup with Mr. Federer); David Ferrer over G. Dimitrov, 6-4, 6-2; Raonic over T. Robredo, 6-4, 6-3; Wawrinka over Almagro courtesy of a walkover; and finally one upset…T. Berdych is out falling to Garcia-Lopez in three sets, 6-4, 3-6, 1-6.  Now…the match du jour!

Roger Federer vs. Lucas Rosol…you all may remember him…the guy who defeated Rafael Nadal in five sets at Wimbledon in 2012 (and Roger Federer said thank you very much and went on to win the trophy and claim his 17th Grand Slam title).  Well, Rosol has not done a whole lot since, and today was no different as Federer won in two sets, 6-4, 6-1.  So Fed advances into the quarterfinals to face Tsonga.

There has been speculation that Roger took a wildcard entry into this event in anticipation of perhaps missing either the event in Rome, Madrid or even the French Open depending on the due date of his third child with wife, Mirka.  Of course, Roger is going to be there for that important and wonderful event!  No word on when the exact due date is, and we all know, those babies often come when is suits them, sometimes when least expected.  He and Mirka may have the birth planned, that is of course all a part of his treasured private life, but I really hope Roger can do well in this event at Monte Carlo and pick up some points.  He is a three time runner-up to Mr. Nadal and has never won this Masters 1000 event.  Would hate to see him miss Roland Garros, but if it happens, then it happens!

Until tomorrow…

P.S. Duke super freshman Jabari Parker has declared for the NBA draft…no real surprise with that news!
