It is all about Tiger Woods at Akron, Ohio, the site of the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational Golf Tournament. He shot a 68 today, leads the pack at -15 and this round (day 3) follows a day one round of 66 and and a day two round of 61. The second place guy, Henrik Stenson is at -8, a mere 7 strokes off the lead set by Woods. So folks, so far this tournament is really all about Tiger Woods, his superb performance, and how brilliant he is on this golf course in particular. He will be dressed in his typical Sunday red tomorrow, atop the leaderboard, going for his 8th championship at Firestone, his 5th tournament victory of the year, and his 79th career victory (chasing Sam Snead at 82). Will he get it done? Hard to imagine any other scenario than Tiger Woods winning this golf tournament tomorrow. 48 of the top 50 golf players in the world are competing at this tournament, a mere week ahead of the final major, the PGA at Oak Hill in Rochester, NY. If Tiger gets it done (surely he will!) then he goes into the PGA as the favorite. However, this has happened before, so it will remain to be seen if Tiger can win his first major and end the five year drought next week.
But back to the tournament currently in progress, Tiger is on fire. He had a bit of an adventure today as far as his driving game, but the hole in on the 13th hole was absolutely “stupid good”!! After day three, the leaderboard stands at Tiger Woods -15, H. Stenson -8, Jason Duffner -7, Chris Wood, Luke Donald, and Bill Haas -6, Keegan Bradley (playing along side Tiger today) and M. Jimenez both at -5. Other notables include Steve Stricker, Rickie Fowler and Bubba Watson at -2. Both Rory Mcilroy and Phil Mickelson came in at E par after today’s round.
Tomorrow, coverage beginning at 2:00 pm EST on CBS will feature Mr. Woods in red for sure with a seven stroke lead, looking to do what Tiger does, close it out in style. Stay tuned…I think he gets it done!
