Tiger back in action at the Memorial, the house that Jack built

Tiger Woods returned to competitive golf action today as the Memorial Tournament got underway in Ohio at the “house that Jack built”, that would be Jack Nicklaus of course.  Tiger had an up and down day, teeing off in the afternoon session and completed his play at -1.  Down the stretch he bogeyed 15, birdied 17 and then bogeyed 18.  He was paired with Keegan Bradley (-1) and Freddie Couples (-2).  Let’s hear if for the “old guy”, way to go Freddie!  The top of the leaderboard after day one is as follows: Charles Schwartzel -7, Scott Piercy -6, Josh Teater -5, Russell Henley -5, Kyle Stanley -5, Charlie Wie -5, Bill Haas -4 and Matt Kuchar -4.  The early morning groups seemed to have the better scores.

Tiger and his group will tee off in the morning session tomorrow and that may prove to be a good thing as rain is expected in the afternoon and unfortunately thunderstorms are in the forecast for the weekend.

Rory Mcilroy continues his woeful year with a round of 78, six over par and will need to really have a good round tomorrow to avoid missing the cut.  (Could girlfriend Caroline Wozniacki being upset in round 2 of the French Open be on his mind…no, he is a pro, not that, he is just struggling with his game).

Other notables include Justin Rose at -2, Bubba Watson at -1, Brandt Snedeker and Rickie Fowler at even par, and Adam Scott along with Luke Donald at +1.

Coverage of round two continues tomorrow on Golf Channel at 2:30 pm EST from Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio.
