It was the shot of the night, day, whatever yesterday from the US Open…Roger Federer’s “tweener off the bum” of M. Matosevic in a straight set win last night that made me and millions of others smile! Federer looked dashing in all black attire (seems to be popular this year at Flushing Meadow) and had non other than MJ, aka Michael Jordan in his box along with Anna Wintour. But inspite of all that grandeur and star power…that tweener off the bum was the bomb!! Federer looked really good in the first two sets, things got a little sketchy in the third..Matosevic can be a character and kind of stirred things up pointing to MJ in the box when Fed was serving. Roger ended up being broken and needed a tie break to finish things out. When all was said and done, Federer advanced, 6-3, 6-4, 7-6. The backhand passing shots by the maestro were sublime.
Serena Williams followed and had a dominating win over fellow young American Taylor Townsend, 6-3, 6-1.
Already two casualties today on the women’s side..American Sloane Stephens is out in the second round as is the #4 seed A. Radwanska. Radwanska fell to Peng of China, 6-3, 6-4. Another disappointing performance at a Major for Radwanska, especially after winning the title a couple weeks back in Montreal. S. Halep (#2 seed) just took care of her business, winning with ease 6-2, 6-1. F. Lopez advanced in five sets over Dodig (forced to retire with hamstring injury) and Berdych appears to be on his way to taking out L. Hewitt. Kevin Anderson of South Africa has won his match in four sets.
So, in addition to the night action live from NYC, the season finale of Motive airs tonight at 10:00 pm EST on ABC. It is going to be good…trust me! I am looking forward to it (as is my DVR!)
