The “journey to the tourney”, destination Georgia Dome, Atlanta, Georgia kicked into gear yesterday at a little after 6:00 pm EST and did not disappoint. Both semifinal games were tremendous. First up, the Shockers from 9 Wichita State lived up to their name and almost shocked 1 Louisville and all of us who had picked the Cardinals to advance to the final. Wichita State led most of the game and the number one seed in the tournament, Louisville, looked like they were in real trouble. Never fear, with all that talent, Louisville managed to pull ahead late in the second half and went on to a very close victory, 72 – 68. This will be Louisville’s first trip to the title game since 1986.
The second game, tipped just before 9:00 pm EST and lived up to all the hype. Two number four seeds, Michigan and Syracuse going at it. It was a see saw game, back and forth with Michigan pulling ahead and Syracuse forcing turnovers with their smothering zone defense and closing the gap. In the end, Trey Burke and his Michigan team crossed the finish line with a victory, 61 – 56. This will be Michigan’s first trip to the final in twenty years.
So we are set for a great NCAA Basketball final on Monday night between 1 Louisville and 4 Michigan (I picked it, yes, I got it right yesterday!). Prelude to a championship begins at 9:00 pm EST, then the game. Then one of my favorite things, “One Shining Moment” with highlights from the tournament.
P.S. I will make my pick on Monday. Yikes! This is going to be a tough one!
