Wawrinka to face Nadal in final at Madrid Open

Way to go Stan!  The other man from Switzerland, Stan Wawrinka, defeated Thomas Berdych today in three sets, 6 – 3, 4 – 6, 6 -4 to earn his second trip to a final in a Masters event in his career!  He will face Rafael Nadal, who rolled over surprise semifinalist Pablo Andujar, 6 -0, 6- 4.  It will be a tall order for Wawrinka, facing the King of Clay in Spain tomorrow but really glad to see him in the final.  He had one of the most heartbreaking losses in recent years when he lost to Djokovic in five sets at the 2013 Australian Open, should and could have won, so glad to see him get this opportunity.

On the women’s side, Serena Williams will play Maria Sharapova for the title.  The winner will also be ranked #1 in the world on Monday.  However, Rome is next, then French Open, so it is a ever changing hold on the #1 ranking in the WTA.

On a personal note, I just hope Federer stays at #2 on the men’s side.  After his poor performance in the loss to Nishikori, after which he vowed that we would not see him play any more matches like that, (I sure hope he means it), I think he will stay at #2 since Murray went out in the quarters.  Still, Fed had points to defend, he was the defending champion.  So, we will await Monday’s rankings.  First up, the men’s and women’s finals at Madrid!
