From Atlanta, GT vs. VT in ACC action

Georgia Tech falls to VT in their first home ACC game, 70 – 65 in OT.   The Jackets led at the half, 25 – 22.  Regulation ended with the game tied at 55 – 55.  Once again, GT just seemed to run out of steam as the Hokies led by star Green prevail in OT.  Hope it is not going to be long year for GT in the ACC!  In other action, North Carolina defeated FSU, 77 – 72 in Tallahassee.

Also, Butler defeated Dayton 79 – 73 but their top scorer Clarke was carted off on a stretcher.

Let’s head to the NFL, ready for some football everyone?   Baltimore leads Denver 14 – 7 halfway through the first quarter.  Come on Peyton, let’s go Denver!

SportsNation from LA

Hey guys!  Anyone out there been watching the “new” SportsNation from LA on ESPN2 at 6:00 pm EST?  Gotta say, first of all I, of course, miss Colin Cowherd!  That being said, this show is pretty cool.  Marcellus Wiley is doing a great job as the new co-host.  They also have a third guest host on every day.  And Charissa, well Charissa seems to be really loving LA. She looks great.  LA must agree with her, and why wouldn’t it?  Congrats to them and keep it going.  Hey, let’s be honest!  I would love to take my “talents” to LA too!

#1 Duke falls to NC State, suffers first loss

The #1 team in the land in college basketball, Duke, suffered their first loss this season, falling at #20/21 NC State today, 84 – 76.  It just goes to show that it is difficult on the road in the ACC.  Duke was playing without Ryan Kelly who is out indefinitely and also Seth Curry went down with a leg injury (he has battled a leg injury this season but this was an injury to the other leg!).  Now, I do not feel so bad about GT losing in Raleigh to NC State!  The Jackets are in action as we speak facing off against VT at home in their home ACC opener!

Also in action, North Carolina vs. FSU.

Stay tuned…

Kobe and Vanessa sitting in a tree…

Watching last night’s dismantling of the LA Lakers by Kevin Durant and the OKC, I was somewhat amused by the continuing scroll at the bottom of the screen on ESPN when it came to NBA news.  Kobe Bryant and his wife (Vanessa) have announced they have reconciled.  The divorce petition filed by Vanessa Bryant in 2011 has been dismissed.  First, who can truthfully say they are surprised.  They are not going to split up.  And on a higher plain, good for them, they have worked things out and have two young daughters.  But that was the NBA news scroll throughout the game!  As far as the game itself, Durant scored 42 points, Kobe had 28 and OKC won 116 – 101 over the limping, struggling, (however many adjectives you want to use here is fine) Lakers.  Magic Johnson declared his Lakers done, stick a fork in it!  I am still not so sure, there is just too much talent, a significant portion of which is injured (Howard, Gasol, and Hill).  Let’s not make funeral arrangements just yet for “the” team from LA.

Three more Bama players headed to NFL

Three more players from this year’s National Champion Crimson Tide team have declared they will take their talents to the NFL.  RB Lacey, CB Milliner and DT Fluker (all juniors)

Don’t cry for Bama, they are always reloaded and will be just fine.

In NFL news, 72 year old Monte Kiffin, former defensive coordinator at USC where his son Lane Kiffin is head coach, has decided to take his talents to the NFL as well.  In his case, he is actually taking his talents back to the NFL.  He has been hired by the Dallas Cowboys as their new defensive coordinator.  Monte was with Tampa Bay for many years.

Lance Armstrong to “fess up”?

Reportedly Lance Armstrong is going to admit to doping through out his entire cycling career in an interview with Oprah Winfrey to be taped this coming Monday.  Well, if anyone can get him on the couch and make him tell the truth, it is Oprah!

Friday misc. football news

Johnny “Football” Manziel has won another award, no I am not talking about his gorgeous Miss Alabama girlfriend that Brent Musburger could not stop drooling over during the BCS title game.  He has won the Manning Award for the best college QB in the nation.  He is the first freshman to win this award as well as the first recipient to be a unanimous choice.  This award is named after the Manning boys, Archie, Peyton and Eli (the one with the perm!).  Congrats again to Johnny Manziel.

Nick Saban, head coach at BCS Champion University of Alabama has reportedly closed the door on NFL offers.  He is content to stay at Bama, and why wouldn’t he be?  The Eagles have interviewed Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly.  No report yet on any “change” for Kelly.  Tajh Boyd may be returning to Clemson for his senior season but star WR DeAndre Hopkins has made another choice, he will declare for the NFL draft.

In NFL news, the Cleveland Browns, after interviewing Ken Whisenhunt (fired from the Arizona Cardinals and former standout TE at GT) have hired Bob Chudzinski.  Chudzinski was previously the offensive coordinator with the Carolina Panthers.

In the Atlanta to Jacksonville exchange program, David Caldwell who was the Director of Player Personnel for the Atlanta Falcons has taken over as General Manager for the Jaguars.  He then fired Mike Mularkey, head coach who was previously the offensive coordinator for the Falcons.  We all know where Mike Smith came from (former defensive coordinator with Jacksonville).  So the exchange program between these two teams continues.  No names yet as far as a replacement for Mularkey as head coach but there have been rumors that Tim Tebow is NOT headed back to Jacksonville.  Stay tuned…
