Ray Lewis and Ravens will play another day

Ray Lewis has returned to action and is playing his “farewell tour”.  The tour will go on as the Ravens defeat Indy 24 – 9.  Nice first season for Andrew Luck and the Colts but it is Baltimore that will move on and get the honor of facing Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos next weekend in Denver.  Did not get to see a lot of this game, it is cold and sometimes a girl just needs a spray tan.  Anyhow, congrats to the Ravens but I will be pulling for Peyton and the Broncos next weekend.

Now, let get ready to watch Seattle and RG III and the Redskins!

Packers cruising late in the 3rd quarter

Green Bay leads Minnesota 24 – 3 late in the 3rd quarter in Saturday night NFL wildcard game.  Too much Rodgers, Combs, and Packers defense doing a good job of keeping Adrian Peterson from getting outside.  Joe Webb starting in place of injured Christian Ponder at QB  doesn’t quite look ready for prime time.  Morgan Burnett (former GT standout) doing a nice job for the Packers in the secondary.  If Green Bay prevails, they will head to San Francisco next weekend.  Should be a little nicer weather out in the bay area (29 degrees at game time in Green Bay, yikes!)

Until tomorrow…

P.S. Final score: GB 24 – Minnesota 10

Houston wins a return trip to New England

The Houston Texans defeat the Cincinnati Bengals, 19 – 13 and their reward will be a return trip to New England to face Tom Brady and the Patriots next weekend.  The Texans suffered a humiliating defeat in their last meeting on SNF.  Today, the Houston defense was superb, forcing the Bengals into a dismal 0 for 9 on 3rd down conversions.  Houston standout performances were delivered by J J Watt on defense and Arian Foster on offense (140 yards rushing, 174 total yards).  In spite of an interception that led to a Bengal score, QB Matt Schaub provided leadership and stability.  Now, it is on to New England for the Texans!

In the NFC wildcard game up next,  Minnesota will start Joe Webb at QB for the injured Christian Ponder.

Compass Bowl final

SEC gets win today in Compass Bowl.  Ole Miss routed Pittsburgh 38 – 17.  SEC teams have lost a couple of key bowl games so far this year (Florida and LSU), so a nice win for them and Ole Miss.  With Texas A & M winning last night and the Rebels taking this game, they have now started to come on strong.  One more SEC team to go, Alabama, in the BCS Championship game Monday night.  Preview of this game on Monday.  For now, NFL wildcard games on tonight and tomorrow!

NBA – Battle of LA

In last night’s “battle of LA” the Clippers survived a 4th period comeback led by Kobe Bryant to defeat the Lakers, 107 – 102.  Kobe finished with 38 points, Dwight Howard had 21 points and 15 rebounds but it was not enough.  Chris Paul led the Clippers with 30 points and Blake Griffin added 24.

For the fourth time this season, Pau Gasol was benched for the 4th period.  He is clearly struggling to find his role on the D’Antoni coached Lakers.  It is really such a shame as Pau is one of the most talented big men in the game as well as one of the more intelligent basketball minds in the game.

Lakers have now dropped three of their last four and trail the Clippers by ten games.  Not good…

Manziel sets Cotton Bowl record!

9 Texas A & M rolled to a second half rout of 11 Oklahoma, 41 – 13 with Johnny Manziel leading the way.  The Heisman trophy winner set a Cotton Bowl record with 516 yards of total offense.  Looks like Texas A & M and Johnny “Football” are going to be a force to be reckoned with in the SEC as well as nationally over the next couple of years.

Halftime from the Cotton Bowl

No Heisman hangover for Johnny Manziel.  At the half, 9 Texas A & M leads 11 Oklahoma 14 – 13 in the Cotton Bowl.  Manziel has two rushing touchdowns.  Landry Jones, QB for Oklahoma, is having quite a nice game himself.  This looks like it is going to be a good one!

Update: Manziel and Texas A & M score two quick touchdowns at the start of the second.  Remember, this team beat Alabama in Tuscaloosa!

Other College Football news:  UGA’s Jarvis Jones has announced his decision to declare for the NFL draft.  No problem for the dawgs, they reload every year.

Back tomorrow with final from the Cotton Bowl.  Have a great night, guys!

There is something about Whitney!

Caught up on some DVR action and watched Whitney Cumming’s latest show, Love You, Mean It/Whitney.  One of her guests was her co-star on her sitcom Whitney.  She just cracks me up.  I don’t know, I can’t explain it.  She is so irreverent!  She is one of a kind.  Love her!!  There I said it.
