The Miami Heat appear back on track with a 110 – 95 thumping of the Mavs.

Good news for Lakers fans?  Steve Nash participates in full practice yesterday (Thursday) and says playing in the Christmas Day game vs. the Knicks is “very realistic”!  Let’s hope it is so, would be a great Christmas gift for the Lakers and their fans!

In College hoops, 1 Duke rolls over Elon, 76 – 54 led by Mason Plumlee’s 21 points and 15 rebounds.  This win came on the day they also celebrated signing the nation’s #2 recruit, Jabari Parker.  Good day on Thursday for the Dukies!

Bill O’Brien receives award

Bill O’Brien of Penn State has received the 2012 Maxwell Coach of the Year Award.  He finished second to Brian Kelly of Notre Dame in the voting for AP Coach of the Year.  Congrats to Coach O’Brien.  He did a tremendous job at Penn State, coming in under the horrific circumstances surrounding the program and leading them to a 8 – 4 record.

In College Basketball news, Duke has landed the nation’s #2 recruit.  (No surprise here!)  Jabari Parker out of Simeon Career Academy in the Chicago, IL area announced his decision today.  Another great recruit headed to Duke!

CFB news and updates…

Bad news for the Tigers and LSU.  Talented punter Brad Wing has been suspended for the Chick-fil-A Bowl match up with Clemson on New Year’s Eve.  The reason given, “violation of team rules”.  Isn’t it always!

Out on the west coast, the allegations of a recruit taking money from a booster continue to loom over that very successful program under Coach Chip Kelly.  Wonder what effect this will have on Kelly’s future, if any, at Oregon?  I, like many, still think Oregon is one of the best if not the best college football team in the nation.  They will head to the Fiesta Bowl to face Kansas State.  This should be one of the great bowl games!

Remember, I am on the Oregon and Stanford bandwagon!

Tonight at 8:00 pm EST, the Poinsettia Bowl game featuring BYU vs. San Diego State.

In the NFC, Green Bay QB Aaron Rodgers is the current leader in votes at QB position.  But Peyton leads in all votes, period!!   In a distant second place, Tom Brady!

NFL rumors…

The New York Jets are having a dismal year, that is for sure.  Now, rumor has it that they are looking to shop benched QB Mark Sanchez  and his contract.  Also, they intend to part ways with back-up QB Tim Tebow at the end of the season.

So where should each of them go?  Tim to Jacksonville?  Nice story, returns to hometown, probably won’t happen.  What about New England, where they love to develop talent?  What about Sanchez?  I don’t know, who needs a talented QB that has so far failed to live up to expectations?  Stay tuned…
