Jimmy V’s recipe for a “perfect day”

Interestingly, watching a TV program called Go On with Matthew Perry (Friends) who plays the host of a sports radio talk show and is grieving over the death of his beloved wife, I came across this incredible tidbit.  Jimmy V (Jimmy Valvano, legendary coach of NC State who fought a brave battle with cancer that he lost) had a recipe for the perfect day. 1) Laugh 2) Think and 3) Cry   Very profound!

I still love Jimmy V’s philosophy of “Don’t give up, don’t EVER give up”!  It is the best!

Lakers lose again, Kobe scores 39…

The L A Lakers fell to the Denver Nuggets last night, blowing a 17 point lead.  Down the stretch, Dwight Howard failed to convert on free throws and the Lakers defense failed to deliver the knock out punch in the 4th period.  This is something they are going to have to address and get fixed if they want to have any hope of reaching the playoffs!  Kobe Bryant scored 39 points and now has 13 to go to reach the magical 30,000 career points milestone!

THWG!! (All good Tech fans know what this means!)

Georgia Tech defeats UGA in basketball tonight 62 – 54!!  Great to see the new McCamish Pavilion, even though it was on TV and not in person!  Really proud of the Jackets!  They are 5 -2 overall, and 3 -0 in their new basketball arena.  Also, glad to see point guard Mfon Mdofia was OK and able to play in spite of his injured ankle.  GT wins over the dawgs in basketball!!

SI Sportsman of the Year for 2012

LeBron James has been named Sports Illustrated Sportsman of the Year for 2012.  Congrats to LeBron!  Other than “the Decision”, I like LeBron.  He  really is a good guy and a tremendous basketball player, maybe the best in the biz right now. (Kobe Bryant may have something to say about this!)

I was pulling for Roger Federer.  I am always pulling for Roger Federer.  As Lindsey Vonn, the great US Olympic Skier said, there is no one like Roger Federer in all of sports!  He is so genuine all the time, win or lose.  Oh well, Roger is still Roger. And congratulations to LeBron James!

SportsNation moving to LA

Just announced today!  SportsNation, the popular show on ESPN2 is moving to Los Angeles in January 2013.  Charissa Thompson will be heading to LA (lucky gal!!) while Colin Cowherd (host of the great radio sports talk show The Herd) will apparently being staying in Connecticut with his family.  This should be interesting.

This has been one of my favorite sports news shows for the past few years, first with Michelle Beadle (now with Access Hollywood) and Colin and now Colin and Charissa.  Interesting move for these guys.  I hope it survives, it really is a great show, different with it’s own distinctive format!

College Football Head Coaching Carousel continues to turn…

ESPN is reporting that current head coach at Wisconsin, Bret Bielema is leaving that position to take the same position at the University of Arkansas.  It is not known whether he will coach Wisconsin against Stanford in the Rose Bowl ( I doubt it!)

Just in: Gus Malzahn (former offensive coordinator at Auburn and current head coach at Arkansas State College) is set to return to Auburn as the new head coach.

Boston College hires Steve Addazio away from Temple to be their next head coach.

This carousel is starting to turn and will spin faster and faster!!

Pau Gasol will sit tonight…

Pau Gasol will sit out tonight’s game vs. the Houston Rockets.  This is due to tendinitis in both knees.  This should give him time to find those “big boy pants” Kobe says he needs to put on!!  (Please note: I love Pau Gasol, I really do!!!)

Meanwhile, Kobe Bryant is 52 points shy of achieving the 30,000 career points milestone.

In College Basketball:  On FoxSports Network at 7:00 pm EST, UGA and GT will face off in basketball!  GO JACKETS!

In College Football News:  Former head coach, Joker Phillips of Kentucky, was not unemployed for long.  He has been hired by the University of Florida as Receiver’s Coach and Recruiting Coordinator.  Now, that is what I call a quick turn around!

Heisman Candidates News…

Well, the awards are starting to roll in for a couple of the  Heisman Trophy Award finalists.  Collin Klein has won the Unitas Golden Arm Award, given to the top upperclassmen QB in the nation.  Congrats!  Manti Te’o has received the Butkus Award, given to the nation’s best line backer.  He also has received the Bronco Nagurski Award, given to the top defensive player.  Congrats to Te’o!  That leaves Johnny “Football” Manziel!  A freshman.  What award will he receive?  Perhaps the Heisman Trophy this Saturday night in New York?  ( He was named SEC offensive player of the year!)
