Insider Izod Indy Racing news…

Randy Bernard has resigned, or was fired, as CEO by the  Board of Izod Indy Car Racing!  Apparently, the Board felt he was not in touch with the needs and desires of the owners as far as the needs and the future of the series.  The Board felt he did not understand the climate that was being created by his failure to address the concerns of the owners for the future of this sport.  Moreover, Tony George, the founder of the Izod Indy Racing Series has resigned from the Board.  This is not good for the future of this once very popular open wheel racing series.  There has been a lot of controversy over the safety of the cars and oval racing, the hallmark of this series.  One of the most popular and beloved participants in this series is Dario Franchetti, who has won the benchmark Indy 500 three times, including this past year!  I hope they get this series back on track.  I love this kind of car racing, not really a NASCAR fan, or the “taxi cabs” as labeled by my friend who is a spotter for the Indy series, and do not want to see this much beloved and historic brand of racing descend into obscurity.  More ovals are needed to bring it back to relevancy, with safety of course a factor, especially after the tragic death of Dan Wheldon.  Hope the Izod Indy Racing Series gets things squared away and comes back next season bigger and better than ever!

Peyton and Eli on today!

NFL action gets underway today and many of us will have the pleasure of watching the Manning brothers!  Peyton will in action early as Denver travels to Cincinnati to take on the Bengals.  Later this afternoon, Eli and the Giants will host Big Ben and the Pittsburgh Steelers.  It has been a rough week in New York but apparently they are ready to play there.  (The New York City Marathon was cancelled).  Anyhow, Eli, his perm, and the stadium are ready to go in spite of the havoc brought by hurricane Sandy.

Tonight, the Atlanta Falcons will be playing in primetime!!  The only remaining undefeated team in the NFL, the Falcons will play host to the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday Night Football.

Good Morning…did you turn your clocks back?

Daylight savings time has come to end for those of us who are subjected to the seasonal turning back and forward of the clock!  Days will be shorter and nights longer for now.

Wrapping up last night’s late College Football scoreboard:  11 Oregon State bounced back from last weekend’s upset to outlast Arizona State, 36 -26.  One other noteworthy score from the west coast, UCLA put a whooping on 22 Arizona, 66 – 10!  Bet that stung!

AP and Coaches Polls will be out this afternoon and the latest BCS rankings will be unveiled tonight.  I am hoping and expecting Oregon to move up in the BCS, certainly from 4 to 3 over Notre Dame who needed three OTs and a bit of Irish luck to beat an unranked Pittsburgh team in South Bend.  Oregon has a couple of tough games ahead of them, still having a couple of  ranked opponents to play as well as a possible rematch with one of them for a Pac-12 championship game.  But as of today, I believe Alabama and Oregon are the two best teams in the country, no disrespect to Kansas State.
