Welcome to Atlanta – the Final Four

At long last the weekend has arrived.  All eyes in the college basketball world are looking at Atlanta, GA, the site of the Final Four.  It will take place at the Georgia Dome, and quite frankly, there are some great seats and some not so great seats in the house at this venue.  So, who are we going to pick?  First up with a 6:09 pm EST tip is 9 Wichita State vs. 1 Louisville.  Conventional wisdom says Louisville, also the sentimental pick with the injury to Kevin Ware (from Atlanta) who is here with his team.  But Wichita State is not to be underestimated, they are here and deservingly so.  That being said, I am going with Louisville.

Next up with a 8:49 pm EST tip is 4 Michigan vs. 4 Syracuse.  This has the potential to be a GREAT game.  Syracuse’s smothering zone defense against all world guard and Wooden winner Trey Burke and his Michigan team’s potent offense.  This one is so tough to pick…too close to call but I am gonna go with Michigan.

So let me know what you think.  I will be at Padriacs for a Final Four/book event (Surviving “Paradise” by Susan Willoch Shaver) watching the games.  Will post pics tomorrow.  Enjoy the show folks!

Trey Burke wins Wooden Award

Trey Burke, point guard extraordinaire from Michigan won the Wooden Award in a very close vote!  Congrats to him.  He and his team are in the ATL for the Final Four.  Burke has already been named the Big Ten player of the year.  Second place in the Wooden Award voting went to Oladipo, his teammate on the Michigan basketball team.  Third place went to Creighton’s Doug McDermott.  Georgetown’s Otto Porto and Gonzaga’s Kelly Olynyk (the one with the great hair) rounded out the top five!

Halle Berry is pregnant again!

Rumor is that Halle Berry is expecting her second child, this time with finance Oliver Martinez.  It would be the second child for Halle.   She has a gorgeous little girl, Nahla, who is five years old.  Halle is 46 and Oliver is 47.  They are supposedly expecting a boy, 3 months along and counting?  Halle has had a rough road romantically, no need to recount her history but hopefully she has finally found “the one” and this will end in “happily ever after”?

Kevin Ware on Letterman!

Kevin Ware, the Louisville guard who suffered a horrific injury last weekend in the NCAA Tournament has traveled with his team to Atlanta for the Final Four.  So glad to see him here!  You have to love the spirit and the attitude of this young man.  Last night, from Atlanta, he did the top ten on Letterman.  It was priceless, and  for those of you who may have missed it,  The Letterman top ten via Kevin Ware were:

10. What was that loud cracking sound?

9. I hope this doesn’t leave a bruise.
8. Hey look, my tibial.
7. Ouch!
6. Did it go in?
5. Oh boy, hospital food.
4. Tape it up, coach, I am staying in.
3. They fired Leno?  (ouch)
2. Heat, then ice? Or, ice then heat?
1. At least my bracket’s not busted.

Bad news for Auburn!

Bad news for Auburn!  Reports are coming out that under former head coach Gene Chizik, Auburn engaged in numerous NCAA infractions such as paying players and changing grades to ensure eligibility. Gee, is anyone really shocked?  Also involved in this mess, former defensive coordinator and now current head coach at Univ. of Florida, Will Muschamp.  College Football and the road to success has become a cut throat business, especially in the SEC!  What kind of message are we sending here?  Not good people!

Nashville recap

ABC hit drama Nashville returned last night with another new episode.  Oh, the drama continues…just when we thought Teddy (Rayna’s soon to be ex-husband?) was free of the manipulation and control of Lamar (Rayna’s father)…it rears it’s ugly head again!  Now Lamar, who wants that stadium built on the land he wants it built on and that is the whole reason he supported Teddy for mayor, has decided to use Teddy’s girlfriend, Peggy, to get what he wants.  He walks in on Peggy who is waiting for Teddy to get home, in Rayna and Teddy’s home no less, and threatens and manipulates her into working her magic on Teddy to get what Lamar wants.  Meanwhile, Rayna has taken the girls on tour with her in New York.  They are enthralled with Juliette Barnes and lured by the glitz and glamor of the touring world.  They are both very talented and Rayna fears for them, getting into the shark infested business of country music too young.  Deacon has brought along his new girlfriend, Stacy, much to Rayna’s surprise?  She tells Deacon she is happy for him but is she really?  How long before the inevitable, these two hooking back up again?  Scarlett and Gunnar reconcile and Gunnar encourages Scarlett to sign on the dotted line of that solo offer from Rayna’s new record label.  There is a new neighbor, a guy, who is pretty talented on the guitar himself and he and Gunnar mix it up a bit.  Avery, Scarlett’s ex, has meanwhile just about hit rock bottom.  Having reneged on his record deal, no one will touch him and he is reduced to singing on the streets of Nashville, looking for pennies and quarters.  What will become of all this?  Stay tuned…more new episodes are in store for us!

MLB updates from last night!

MLB updates from Wednesday night…Red Sox over the Yankees, 7 – 4.  Yankees are going to have a tough April due to injuries.  Giants and Lincecum over the Dodgers in LA, 5 – 3.  And here in the rainy ATL, the Atlanta Braves defeated the Phillies, 9 – 2.  Starting pitcher Malholm was outstanding, Halladay for the Phillies, not so much.  HR for Upton.  Braves certainly appear to have accomplished one of their off-season goals, get some OFFENSE!  Keep it going Braves!

Great TV night tonight (Wednesdy 4/3/13)

Heads up, great TV night tonight.  Baseball is back!  Red Sox vs. Yankees on ESPN.  Later, Giants vs. Dodgers.  The Braves are currently up on the Phillies on a rainy night in the ATL, 3 -0 early.  Upton homered with Heyward on base.  Then RBI sent Freddie Freeman across the plate for run number 3.  Still early of course.

Also, new episode of ABC hit drama Nashville is on tonight at 10:00 pm EST.  Will have recap tomorrow.

And on HBO, one of my favorite movies, We Bought A Zoo with Matt Damon, Scarlett Johansson and Elle Fanning (Dakota’s little sister, both from Conyers, Georgia).  I love this movie!  I have watched it so many times I am embarrassed to tell you the number of times.  Great feel good movie, directed by Cameron Crowe of Almost Famous fame!

If you can’t find something on tonight you enjoy, I just don’t know what to say!
