Round three from Honda Classic

On a windy day at Palm Beach Gardens, FL, the third round of the Honda Classic was completed.  Kind of a dud, sorry but no Rory or Tiger making a run, just not the excitement I was hoping for.

The leaderboard looks like this with conclusion of play today: Luke Guthrie at -8, Michael Thompson – 8, Geoff Ogilvy at -6, Lee Westwood – 6, Rickie Fowler – 5, and Charles Howell III at -5.  Again, Tiger shot even par at 70 and is tied for 32nd.  Ho, hum…

Final round coverage tomorrow at 3:00 pm EST on NBC.

Kansas back on a roll

WOW!  6 Kansas has suffered through a difficult period, three losses and a huge unbeaten streak broken.  Now, they are on a ROLL!  They just hammered West Virginia in Lawrence, 91 – 65.  This was a beat down, and I do mean a beat down.  They are starting to look like a team that may in fact get a top seed in the tourney.  This team was on fire today.

Guess it is time to check out the golf at the Honda Classic before Miami visits Duke.  With Rory out, and Tiger only making par, I have lost a bit of interest. I will switch over and update the final results of day three when it is complete!

On a personal note…

Just want to share something that is sort of along the lines of human interest/personal interest, etc.  You know guys, life is hard.  There are a lot of haters out there and sometimes it seems like the world just wants to beat us up and pound on us!  Always be thankful for the exceptions to the rule.  When you find some really good people out there, celebrate them and be appreciative!  They are a gift.  I want to mention two such people I know.  Dean Austin of Wells Fargo Financial Advisors and Dr. Chris Crooker of Gwinnett Medical Center Associates.  First, Dean.  I dedicated my book “Surviving ‘Paradise” to Dean because of his support and his belief in the importance of following my passion.  Believe me, I have no finances for Dean to manage at this time but I am always working on my craft and hoping to change that.  Non the less, he is a person of true integrity and someone you can trust and respect.  Dr. Crooker is my longtime physician and he is one of a kind.  I recently had an appointment and a fellow came in who had driven 150 miles to see him.  He had relocated due to his inability to find work in the metro Atlanta area but he needed to see his doctor.  I told him with a smile that I had him beat.  When I lived in “Paradise”, I got on an airplane and traveled 550 miles to see Dr. Crooker.  He laughed and told me he needed that, thank you and that it had brightened his day.  Never under estimate the impact you can have on someone with a smile and a kind word.  Dr. Crooker is one of the best people you could ever meet and a physician who truly cares.  If you are in the metro Atlanta area and/or just passing through,  if you need either of these services. check them out!  You will not be disappointed, you will be rewarded!

Tiger starts out with a bang, then falters

Tiger Woods started his 3rd round on fire, but then faltered and wound up with another par round of 70 at the Honda Classic.    With the current leader already at -9 (Guthrie) just getting underway and a full third round of action still to come today, does not look like Tiger will be a factor in Sunday’s final round.  Last year at this event, he shot a scintillating round of 62 to give winner Rory Mcilroy something to think about.  (Of course, Rory has withdrawn this year due to a bad wisdom tooth).  Anyhow, Tiger will play on Sunday in his typical red attire, but unfortunately not likely to be a factor.  Third round leaderboard  results to follow later today after play is completed!

CBB on Saturday

A nice schedule of college basketball games on this Saturday.  Currently, Alabama is playing at 8 Florida.  Also, 10 Louisville is visiting 12 Syracuse.  Iowa will take on 1 Indiana tonight.  Perhaps the most intriguing match up today is at 6:00 pm EST when 5 Miami will take on 3 Duke (likely to drop after loss at UVA) at Cameron Indoor Stadium.  Injured Duke star Ryan Kelly is rumored to be returning  to action tonight.  Updates to follow…

Bit of trivia…hot actor Taye Diggs attended Syracuse!  Loved him on Private Practice.

Joe Flacco is in the $$$$$

Super Bowl Champion Baltimore Ravens have inked their starting QB and Super Bowl MVP Joe Flacco to a whopping 6 year/120.6 million dollar deal.  Flacco’s was due to become a free agent and no way the Ravens were going to let him slip away.  Way to get it done, Joe! (and congrats to his agent as well)

Djokovic wins Dubai Championship for second year in a row

World no. 1 Novak Djokovic took care of the #3 seed Thomas Berdych (who upset Roger Federer yesterdayYell) to win the title at Dubai for the second year in a row.  He took the title in two reasonably tough sets, 7 – 5, 6 – 3.  Djokovic has now won this title four times.  Still disappointed not to get a Fed – Djokovic match up for the final.  Oh well…
