Kobe Bryant has joined twitter!  The self proclaimed ‘black mamba” has signed on as hashtag (@ KobeBryant (http://twitter.com/kobebryant) as of today and immediately picked up 250,000 followers.  LeBron James is the most followed NBA player with 6.8 million followers.  But, Kobe is just getting started.  Oh my, I am going to have to learn this twitter thing I fear.  Heaven help me!

Quick deal for Andy Reid

In the crazy coaching carousel that is well under way in the NFL, Andy Reid, fired from the Philadelphia Eagles has scored the first hiring.  Sources confirm that he has accepted the head coaching position with the Kansas City Chiefs.  He is expected to have a lot of control over player personnel and all relevant franchise decisions, much the same as he had in Philadelphia.  OK, so who is going to come in second in the race to the next NFL job?

Cotton Bowl up next

Next up is the Cotton Bowl from Arlington, Texas Friday at 8:00 pm EST on FOX.  This should be another good one as Heisman Trophy winner Johnny “Football” Manziel and 9 Texas A & M take on Landry Jones and 11 Oklahoma in another SEC vs. Big 12 match up.  As a brief aside of note, the SEC has not done so well this bowl season thus far.  Anyhow, tonight’s game should be an entertaining and high scoring affair.

If you want to stay up really late, in the NBA, Kobe and the Lakers will play Blake Griffin and the Clippers in the Staples Center.  (10:30 pm EST ESPN)  Wonder who will win, most would say the Clippers, but I will pull for the Lakers.

Back later…

Quack Attack on full display

4 Oregon and their high octane offense, “quack attack”, was on full display and Oregon rolled to an 35 – 17  final over 5 Kansas State in the Fiesta Bowl.  Now, the question looms, will coach Chip Kelly stay or will he go the NFL?  Bigger question for me, since I consider Oregon one of my “other” teams, what could have been had they not lost that heartbreaker in OT to Stanford at home, 14 – 17.  Taking nothing away from Stanford, another one one my”other” teams, but had the Ducks prevailed, they would likely be playing in Monday night’s BCS Championship game.  Will be interesting to see where Oregon ends up in the BCS rankings after all is said and done.  They are also a young team with many starters returning, so they should look to be right back at or near the top next year.

Over and out for now…

Oregon on top in the 3rd quarter – Fiesta Bowl

4 Oregon leads 5 Kansas State 32 – 10 midway through the third quarter at the Fiesta Bowl.  The Ducks have one tempo, fast, then fast, and then faster.  The quack attack has scored twenty four touchdowns in under a minute this season.  They even score in ways I have never heard of, such as getting an extra point after a TD blocked, then Kansas State recovers in the end zone and laterals the ball backwards to another player who gets tackled for a one point safety.  First time I have seen that one!  Anyhow, Oregon looks to be  in command right now, so unless Collin Klein and K State have a miracle in store for us…

Reportedly at least three teams have asked for permission to speak with Oregon head coach Chip Kelly after the completion of this bowl game.

Penn State’s head coach Bill O’Brien has decided to stay put after interviewing with the Cleveland Browns (according to sources).

Back tomorrow with tonight’s Fiesta Bowl final…and more!

Getting ready for the “Quack attack”

Tonight, 8:30 pm EST on ESPN the “Quack attack” will be in full force for our viewing pleasure as 4 Oregon takes on Collin Klein and 5 Kansas State in the Fiesta Bowl. Cannot wait.

Friday night basketball preview: Kobe Bryant and the “struggling” LA Lakers will face off against the other Los Angeles team, the Clippers and Blake Griffin at 10:30 pm EST.  Who are you pulling for?  I am pulling for the Lakers!

Where has SportsNation gone?

OK, we know Colin Cowherd left SportsNation as the show was headed to LA with Charissa Thompson as the single (?) host?

We thought (or at least I thought) they were going to debut the new show 1/2/13 from LA.  My TV guide has shown it as airing at 6:00 pm EST on ESPN2. Well, two days and counting and it is not there?  Where, oh where has SportsNation gone?  Hopefully, it is on its way to us soon!

Speaking of Colin, happened to catch his radio interview with Kobe about the Lakers being slow and old on ESPN, replayed from his radio talk show The Herd With Colin Cowherd.  Very good!

As the NFL turns…

Yesterday reports indicated that former Eagles head coach Andy Reid would likely be headed out to Arizona to take over as head coach there.  Today, it appears he is going to instead become the next head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs.  Stay tuned…the only thing that is certain is things are changing, daily!

How sweet it is!

How sweet it is for 21 Louisville and Coach Charlie Strong, sweet as sugar, with a huge upset of 3 Florida 33 – 23 in last night’s Sugar Bowl.  It was a tale of two quarterback performances as well.  Bridgewater was superb for Louisville while Driskel struggled for the Gators.  Jeff Driskel had only thrown three interceptions all year and he threw two last night and also fumbled.  Florida’s defense let them down as well, although some of that can certainly be attributed to Louisville and their game plan.  It had to feel very special for Charlie Strong who was the defensive coordinator at the University of Florida before taking over as head coach at Louisville.  He also had an opportunity to return to the SEC as head coach at the University of Tennessee but turned it down to stay at Louisville.

Next up, tonight the Fiesta Bowl from the desert.  4 Oregon vs. 5 Kansas State  (Great match up, have been looking forward to this game!)
