Matt Damon movie coming out December 28th…

Another “feel good” movie coming out December 28th with Matt Damon and John Krasinski (love him, married to Emily Blunt) called Promised Land.  This looks like another one of those family friendly movies that Matt Damon has done recently (what happened to Jason Bourne?) like We Bought a Zoo.  Maybe as a father of four daughters, he has embraced this kind of genre.  Anyhow, this movie looks both entertaining and heartwarming.  I have to admit, I loved We Bought A Zoo.  I watched it three times!!

Are the Broncos the most complete team in the NFL?

Interesting question posed today on NFL Live on ESPN.  Are the Denver Broncos the most complete team in the NFL right now?  Well, the answer they gave was YES.  I love Peyton Manning.  They have great young receivers, great running backs, and a tremendous young defense.  So, I don’t know.  Maybe so, but let’s not forget about the Atlanta Falcons.  Great victory over the the New York Giants ( and Eli Manning) this past weekend.  Just saying, still early…more football to be played!

Revisiting the phenomenon once known as “Linsanity”

Tonight, Jeremy Lin returns to Madison Square Garden, but as a member of the Houston Rockets.  There is some debate as to whether he will be a starter tonight in his return to the scene where the phenomenon known as “Linsanity” was once created.  The Rockets take on the New York Knicks tonight in MSG and I really hope the fans in the Garden will greet Lin with a warm ovation.  I think they will.  What took place there last season for about two glorious weeks captured the nation.  A Harvard grad, sleeping on his brother’s sofa in New York City, played out of his mind and elevated the Knicks to a level at which they had not previously been performing.  Things change, as they always do in sports, especially these days.  Jeremy is now with the Rockets and the Knicks are potentially a threat to unseat Miami in the Eastern Conference of the NBA ( I said potentially, so don’t get frantic anyone).  What transpired last year was really special and I hope the fans remember what a awe inspiring performance he put on with some of the last minute shots that won games and lifted the spirits of an otherwise sagging Knicks franchise!

Greet Jeremy Lin and his return to New York tonight in the manner he deserves, with respect and gratitude!!

Duke back on top in Men’s College Basketball!

The Duke Blue Devils are back where they belong, or at least where they frequently find themselves, atop the College Basketball rankings!  With the loss of previous #1 Indiana to Butler this past weekend, Duke has risen to the top.  The AP and Coaches top ten are as follows:

AP Poll: 1 Duke, 2 Michigan, 3 Syracuse, 4 Arizona, 5 Louisville, 6 Indiana, 7 Ohio State, 8 Florida, 9 Kansas, and 10 Illinois.

The Coaches Poll: 1 Duke, 2 Michigan, 3 Syracuse, 4 Louisville, 5 Arizona, 6 Indiana, 7 Ohio State, 8 Kansas, 9 Florida, and 10 Illinois.

Indiana fell to #6 in both polls after the loss.  Louisville and Arizona flip flop in the polls, as does Kansas and Florida.  Otherwise, they look pretty similar.

The season is of course long; the road to the final four in Atlanta is quite a ways off, but for now, the Dukies are back on top!

R A Dickey and MLB news…

Looks like the trade of Cy Young Award winner, R A Dickey, from the New York Mets to the Toronto Blue Jays is going to happen.  He has agreed to a 2 year deal, $25 million extension on his contract.  Sounds like everyone is happy now!!

Nasty evening in Foxboro

New England is hosting San Francisco in Foxboro, MA on SNF.  The weather is horrible, cold and rainy.  San Francisco is pouring it on early in the 4th, 31 – 17, although Tom Brady had led a New England comeback with two long drives.  There have been five turnovers so far, two by San Francisco and three by New England.  Can Kaepernick and the rest of the 49ers close this out?

Stay tuned…update on final score later, or tomorrow!

San Francisco 31 – New England 24!  Big pass interference penalty on 49ers.  Here come Brady and the Pats. What looked like game over a short while ago, now 7 point game with over 12 minutes left to play!

Over 6 minutes left, 31 all!  Who would have thought it!

TD San Francisco; 49ers 38 – Patriots 31.  Are you kidding me?

Final score: San Francisco 38 – New England 31   (Brady throws another interception) Turned out to be a great Monday night game!

Kobe and Lakers win again…

The L A Lakers won another one today, defeating the 76ers in Philly, 111 – 98.  Kobe scored 34, Metta World Peace added 19 points and a career high 16 rebounds, and Dwight Howard scored 17 points with 11 rebounds.  Could they possibly be figuring things out?  Steve Nash is hopeful of returning this week, and it would be great to get Pau Gasol back as well.  Steve Blake will be out a bit longer recovering from abdominal surgery.

Former Laker, Andrew Bynum watched from the bench.  The now 76er is still recovering from knee problems (what else is new?)  He made some interesting comments about his time in LA, saying at first it helped him, then later that it hindered his development playing with Kobe, not getting enough touches.  Really?  Was that the problem?  I kind of thought it might have something to do with tremendous talent but a lack of maturity and a bit of an attitude problem.

Oh well, Lakers win again so let see if they they have turned a corner??
