Lakers are down at the half…

Kobe Bryant and the LA Lakers continue to struggle (don’t know how else to put it?).  They are down at the half  to the Cavs, 54 – 39.  Perhaps they come back, perhaps they don’t.  This is just so hard to comprehend.  They are missing key pieces, Steve Nash, Pau Gasol, still they have Kobe, Dwight and others.  What is so wrong??  Stay tuned, maybe the final will change the story?

Final score: Cleveland 100 – Lakers 94, the song remains the same.  I am starting to get concerned, and  I am a believer, and I love LA!

Great game on between Knicks and the Nets!  Battle of NY, Knicks win!

Onward and upward for Texas A & M

The move to the SEC has been good for Texas A & M. According to recent reports, they are piling up the top recruits, doing very well in the state of Texas with stiff competition from the  University of Texas and others.  They have signed the number one recruit in the region and have a bounty of top rated recruits all ready signed and committed.  Their strong performance this year in their first year competing in the SEC, beating Alabama in Tuscaloosa, and QB Johnny Manziel winning the Heisman Trophy have been a huge boost for this program. The future is bright in College Station…

MLB – Youikilis to the Yankees…

Red Sox third baseman Kevin Youkilis is headed to arch rival New York Yankees.  Reports indicate he has signed a one year deal with the Yankees.  He will replace injured Yankee, ARod at third base for New York.  No such think as loyalty any more, from the Red Sox to the Yankees…all about the almighty dollar and play ball!

NBA Updates…

Last night, the Miami heat pulled away from the 12 – 5 Atlanta Hawks in the second half, winning 101-92.  This was largely due to the outstanding performances of their two superstars, James scoring 27 points and Wade tossing in 26 points.

Tonight, the struggling Lakers take on the Cleveland Cavaliers (former team of aforementioned LeBron James).  Steve Nash expects to miss two more weeks and Pau Gasol will continue to sit out with tendinitis in both knees. Can Kobe and Howard and the remaining cast get it done?

NFL news…ruling on the Saints’ player suspensions

Former NFL commissioner Paul Tagliabue has made his decision, and he has vacated the suspensions of the Saints players involved in the “bounty scandal”.  While he agrees with the findings of current NFL commissioner Roger Goodell in finding the players’ conduct detrimental to the integrity and the public confidence in NFL football, he holds the Saints GM and head coach accountable, not the players.  Interesting???  The players’ suspensions have been overturned.  What do you think?  When we are talking about the NFL, not college, grown men earning paychecks, is all the accountability with the management and coaching staff, or are they accountable as well?  The ruling has been made, and will be abided by.

Well, I made it to the movie…and not such a good choice?

I finally got to the movies, saw Killing Them Softly.  Wish in all honesty I had made another choice.  Never a bad afternoon to see Brad Pitt.  Brad’s Production Company, Plan B also produced this movie.  That being said, I like the Brad Pitt in Moneyball!!

This movie was gruesome and explicit, just as the critics have said.  There is a lot of blood, guts, body tags, and just plain gross stuff!!  Interestingly, it continually plays against the backdrop of the 2008 election, TV is always on in the background with talk of the financial corruption and crisis in the country.  So, there is also no honor among thieves, or in this case, killers.  Brad is superb as a totally detached “hitman”, there is no knock on the acting.  James Gandolfini plays a washed up, drunk hit man and Ray Liotta makes an abbreviated appearance as a low rung swindler.  But it is just not a feel good movie, and it is of course, not meant to be.  I don’t know, after seeing Argo, Flight, and Skyfall, I was not thrilled.  Next time, chick flick!!

From contender to pretender?

MNF last night showcased Tom Brady and the New England Patriots thumping the Houston Texans, 42 – 14.  This was never close.  Brady had 4 TD passes and Houston definitely looked like a pretender, not a contender.  They must now win next weekend to have a shot at clinching their division.  They fall to 11 -2 (same as the Atlanta Falcons).  New England, looks very strong and improves to 10 – 3.
