NFL Sunday news…

We have some winners!!  A few teams have clinched their divisions today.  The Houston Texas have done so with a 24 – 10 win over Tennessee.  The New England Patriots have followed suit with a win over Miami, 23 – 13.  Another final, Green Bay over Minnesota, 23 – 14.

Denver and Peyton Manning can clinch their division today with a win over Tampa Bay.  They are up 7 -0, early.  Jay Cutler is back in action for the Chicago Bears, and they trail Seattle in OT, 23 – 17.  This is now a final!

Afternoon game will feature Pittsburgh (without Big Ben) vs. Baltimore.  The Ravens can clinch their division with a win.

Following the ever popular Sunday theme of where in the world are the Manning boys?, Peyton and Denver are in action against Tampa Bay (see above).  Peyton will also be in action on TNF when the Broncos face off against the Raiders.  As for little brother, Eli, he and the Giants will face RG III and the Washington Redskins on MNF.  Now speaking of some great hair, I mean really!!

SNF will offer Philadelphia vs. Dallas.  Most likely, Philadelphia will be without Micheal Vick.

Update!!! Andrew Luck and his magic strike again, TD pass to Avery with time running out and the Colts defeat the Lions, 35 – 33!

Back with more finals later…

AP and Coaches Poll are out…

The AP and Coaches Polls are both out after Championship weekend.  The BCS will be out tonight, along with the results of Bowl Selection Special as broadcast on ESPN.

AP Poll is as follows: 1 Notre Dame, 2 Alabama, 3 Ohio State (so likely no split decision on National Champion between BCS and AP when all is said and done?), 4 Florida, 5 Oregon, 6 UGA, 7 Kansas State, 8 Stanford, 9 LSU and 10 Texas A & M.

Coaches Poll: 1 Notre Dame, 2 Alabama, 3 Oregon (yes!), 4 Florida, 5 UGA, 6 Kansas State, 7 LSU, 8 Stanford, 9 Texas A & M and 10 South Carolina.

The top ACC schools in both polls are FSU at 13 and Clemson at 14 in AP, FSU at 12 and Clemson at 13 in Coaches Poll.

There are two problems I see: 1. Stanford is underrated in both polls.  2. Oregon is at 5 in the AP.  Really??? #5  Come on man!!!

Just a post note: Heisman Trophy will be awarded on Monday, December 8th.  I think the top three finalist in proper order are as follows: 1) Johnny Manziel, 2) Collin Klein and 3) Manti Te’o  Just my own prediction.  We shall see.

BCS out later…

We can just about wrap up Championship weekend…

Big 12 Championship game just ended with 6 Kansas State winning 42 – 24 over 18 Texas.  This game was close in the first half  but Kansas State and Collin Klein came out in the second half and got it done.  They will head to the Fiesta Bowl.  Case McCoy, younger brother of Colt McCoy, had a difficult night at QB for Texas with two interceptions.  Collin Klein made his last push for the Heisman with three touchdowns, two passing and one on the ground.  Great job by Coach Bill Snyder!

Big Ten Game: Still in the 4th quarter but I don’t think there is any doubt about the outcome!  Wisconsin is up 70 – 24 over 12 Nebraska and for the second year in a row, Wisconsin will head to the Rose Bowl (to face Stanford, winner of the Pac 12).

In the ACC Championship Game: (This is the game I will admit I watched from start to finish, being a GT fan!), the Jackets fell to 13 FSU 21 – 15.  A really nice effort by the Jackets.  Things did not look so good in the first half, as GT could only manage to score field goals while FSU scored TD’s.  In the second half, GT shut down FSU and made one heck of a game of it.  They actually had the ball with just under two minutes left, and could of maybe should of gone down the field for a winning score.  Such was not to be.  Tevin Washington had a nice game, but the lack of consistent passing is what has buried GT this year.  Bright future ahead with Vad Lee at QB as he has gained some invaluable experience playing a lot  this year.  FSU had three turnovers, nice effort again by the GT defense in the second half under interim defensive co-coordinator Charles Kelly.  The last drive for GT ended with a interception, their second turnover of the game and FSU is headed to Miami to play in the Orange Bowl, likely against Louisville representing the Big East.  Congrats to the Noles, ACC Champions!  Also congrats to the Jackets for making this a close game, something most did not expect!

As previously reported, the SEC Championship was a jewel.  2 Alabama held off 3 UGA, 32 – 28.  Great effort by the dawgs, but Bama will advance to face 1 Notre Dame for the National Title.

Tomorrow we will find out the final verdict on the BCS and the bowl match ups.

Sad to think College Football is winding down, even though we of course will be watching through the first week in January of 2013.  Still, College Football is special!  Hope everyone enjoyed Championship weekend as much as I did!!

Until tomorrow…

Alabama wins SEC and will play in Notre Dame in BCS Championship!

What a game at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta.  2 Alabama edges 3 Georgia, 32 – 28 to win the SEC Championship and likely play 1 Notre Dame in the BCS Championship game in Miami.  Bama set a SEC Championship game rushing record with 349 yards and scored the go ahead TD on a pass from McCarron to Cooper with 4 minutes remaining in the 4th quarter.  Aaron Murray, QB for UGA had a tremendous game, but in the end, the UGA defense could not stop the constant pounding of the Alabama rushing attack.  It was a game that see sawed back and forth, and for awhile, one thought it might be the dawgs who pulled it out and advanced to the National Title game.  In the end, Bama and their relentless ground attack wore them down.  Will be an interesting match up, Alabama vs. Notre Dame.  Cannot help but think that Stanford and/or Oregon are worthy of being there as well.  Other teams probably have an argument, but this is the system and this is the way it is likely going to be.  Congrats to the Tide!

Still to be decided tonight: ACC Championship (FSU vs. GT), Big Ten (Nebraska vs. Wisconsin) and Big 12 (Kansas State vs. Texas).

Back later…

Early Championship weekend results…

Few early games are completed!  Baylor shocks (?) 23 Oklahoma State, 41- 24.  How about Baylor!  11 Oklahoma survives TCU 24 – 17 and clinches a share of the Big 12 Title.  Now, it remains to be seen what happens tonight when 18 Texas and 6 Kansas State square off.  If Kansas State wins, they go to the Fiesta Bowl to represent the Big 12.  If not, then it will be Oklahoma.  Also, 15 Oregon State  is rolling over Nicholls state (who?), 35 – 0 at the half.  This is a make-up game that was postponed from an earlier date due to bad weather.

The two teams who have the best hope of a BCS at large berth are Florida and Oregon (I love the Ducks!!).  They will be eagerly watching the action this afternoon and tonight.

Just about to get underway in Atlanta for the SEC Championship.  Apologies, but I am a GT fan, so ROLL TIDE!

Tonight, GO JACKETS, apparently without leading rusher Orwin Smith!
