Orwin Smith doubtful…say it ain’t so…

ESPN alert: Orwin Smith, the leading rusher for Georgia Tech has been listed as doubtful for Saturday night’s ACC Championship game vs. FSU (ankle).  Say it ain’t so!  Georgia Tech is going to need everyone to try and pull off a surprise upset!  Oh well, perhaps we will get better news at game time!

In other College Football news: former LSU standout Tyrann Mathieu, the “Honey Badger” who was a Heisman finalist last year and has been out all year due to “misbehavior”, has declared he will enter the NFL draft.  No surprise here.  He was dismissed from the LSU team this past August, prior to the start of the season.

Speaking of what would Kobe do…

Kobe Bryant is attempting to become the fifth player in NBA history to score 30,000 career points, and at age 34, he would be the youngest to accomplish this feat.  He has one hundred points to go, and will face Denver tonight in LA to move closer towards this milestone.  What would Kobe do?  How about keep being great!

Falcons win!!

Atlanta Falcons defeat the Saints in the ATL 23 – 13.  They clinch the NFC south with a loss by Tampa Bay this weekend.  Either way, they are in control and with an 11 – 1 record, they are the best in the biz!!  Drew Brees had his record of 54 consecutive games with a touchdown pass come to an end.  He also threw five (that would be FIVE) interceptions.  Not a great game offensively for the Falcons, more of a defensive battle.  Doesn’t matter, Falcons win!!!  Love to see the Falcons play in the Dome!

In College Football action, Louisville survives Rutgers 20 – 17 and will at least share the Big East title and secure a BCS bowl berth.  They are also apparently headed for the ACC!

In College Basketball action, Notre Dame took care of 8 Kentucky, 64 – 50.  Quite a schooling for Kentucky’s latest crop of “one and done” superstars!

In NBA news, Rondo will be suspended for two games after the infamous brawl in Boston last night.  Really, let’s act like grown ups!!  Like I said earlier, when in doubt, just ask “what would Kobe do”??

Pac 12 Championship game tomorrow night, a rematch between Stanford and UCLA.

Until tomorrow…

Georgia Tech WILL go bowling!!!

Just in from ESPN.  The NCAA has approved a waiver which will allow Georgia Tech to go to a bowl, with a 6 – 7 record should they lose to FSU in the ACC Championship Game on Saturday night.  Thank you NCAA.  Also, remember, FSU win over GT is NOT a “gimme”!!!

Saints arrive in Atlanta…

Several members of the New Orleans Saints tweeted after arriving in Atlanta for tonight’s game vs. the Falcons that their bus had been pelted by eggs thrown by airport workers.  Really, surely not in the ATL!  This game is always contentious and I am sure the big game tonight will not be any different.  A lot on the line for the Falcons, they can clinch the division!  Stay tuned…should be a good one!

Rumble in Boston last night???

WOW, Grown men behaving badly!! Last night in the Celtics vs. Nets game, there was shall we say “a bit of a brawl”!  Rajon Rondo took offense when Kris Humphries (the at some point to be ex Mr. Kim Kardashian) shoved Kevin Garnett under the basket.  The next thing you knew, punches were being thrown everywhere.  It looked like angry kids on a playground!  Rondo, Humphries, and Net guard Gerald Wallace were all ejected after two technical fouls.  Garnett got one technical foul!  I guess it was a bit of a severe push, with Garnett being shoved out of bounds.  But seriously, with all the money these guys make, can’t they just get along????  I’m just saying…What would Kobe do??

ACC/Big Ten Challenge ends in a “tie”

The ACC/Big Ten College Basketball Challenge ended in a draw, 6 wins for the ACC and 6 wins for the Big Ten.  The marque game last night featured 2 Duke vs. 4 Ohio State.  The Dukies did not disappoint their fans at Cameron Indoor Stadium, winning 73 –  68.  In another game, Georgia Tech fell to 22 Illinois, 75 – 62.  The Jackets looked very impressive in this loss, they hardly looked like a team picked to finish 9th in the ACC.  Senior point guard Mfon Udofia suffered an ankle injury and one can only hope it is not as serious as it looked!

In some other sports news: U Conn and Cincinnati may be headed to the ACC as well?

B J Upton is heading from the Yankees to the Atlanta Braves.

Derek Fisher (former Laker) has signed to play with the Dallas Mavericks.

Tonight’s College Football match up will be a Big East battle between Louisville and Rutgers.

Big Thursday Night Football game in the NFL, the Saints visit the Atlanta Falcons.  The Falcons can clinch the NFC south with a win!  GO FALCONS!

Bit of an update:  Marcus Lattimore, injured star RB for South Carolina, is reportedly leaning toward declaring for the NFL draft.  Can’t blame him, two years in a row, serious knee injuries take him out for season.  Hope so much that this young man can come back and get a chance to play at the next level!  (Hope that for him and his family!)
