BCS Poll is out in all its glory…

Latest BCS Poll is out after all the drama of this crazy weekend.  Here it is:  1 Notre Dame, 2 Alabama, 3 UGA, 4 Florida, 5 Oregon, 6 Kansas State, 7 LSU, 8 Stanford (yes!), 9 Texas A & M and 10 FSU.

So, congrats to Stanford, who finally is given its due in a  relevant poll!!  Also, nice to see Oregon did not get slammed for the close loss in OT to a quality team like Stanford.  Kansas State fell from 1 to 6 after the stomping it took at Baylor.  UGA at 3, well, I am a GT fan so I cannot comment without showing my bias.  (Remember what happened back in October when they played at South Carolina).  I know, lose early, not in November!

Next week, and the week after will continue to factor into the final equation.  Notre Dame at USC (perhaps without Matt Barkley), Oregon at Oregon State, Stanford at UCLA, Alabama at Auburn, GT at UGA, Florida at FSU, Clemson at South Carolina.  Then there are the conference championships.  There is more to come…

Remember, on any given Saturday, anything can happen!!!

A little more sports info…

University of Tennessee has announced the firing of head coach Derek Dooley.  This comes as no real surprise, the only factor has been the rumors of the huge buyout involved, either $7 million or $10 million for the staff.

NFL updates: New England takes care of Andrew Luck and Indy 59 -24 and Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos prevail over San Diego, 30 – 23.  Good day for the Manning boys!!

Falcons survive six turnovers…

The Atlanta Falcons, fresh off their first loss last week to the Saints, survive six turnovers  (5 interceptions by Matt Ryan??) and defeat Arizona, 23 – 16.  The Falcons are 9 – 1, have survived some close games, but the verdict is still out.  They are in control of their division, are heading toward securing home field in the playoffs, but all the guys on the OT ask, how good are the Falcons, really??  Hopefully, they are really good!  The are loaded with talent, so let’s hope they can continue winning, however they do it!

In other action: RGIII and the Redskins take care of the Eagles, 31 – 6; Eli and the Giants defeat St. Louis, 27 – 13; Tampa Bay outlasts Cam Newton and the Panthers in OT, 27 – 21; the Texans and Jacksonville are tied at 34 – 34 in OT (what is up with this, the Texans are one of the league’s best this year?); Green Bay defeats the Lions in OT, 24 – 20.

Big brother Manning, Peyton is in action but trailing early, 0 -7 as the San Diego leads currently 7 -0 thanks to an interception of Peyton (oops..).  New England trails Indy, 14 – 7 after 1st quarter.

Update: Houston defeats Jacksonville in OT 43 – 34.

BCS Poll out this evening, should be interesting!

Movie news…

I have not yet gotten to see the new Bond movie, Skyfall.  I promise, I will.  I also am looking forward to the movie coming out November 30th with Brad Pitt as a hit man, Killing Them Softly.  I have a theory, you are either a Brad Pitt person or a George Clooney person.  You can like them both, but at the end of the day, you really are one or the other.  (I am a Brad Pitt person).  Sort of like you are either a mountain person, or a beach person.  You can like them both as well, but you ARE one or the other. (I am a beach person!).

Another good movie for romantics, coming out December 7th is Playing for Keeps starring Jessica Biel (Mrs. Justin Timberlake), Gerard Butler, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Dennis Quaid.

I hope to get to all of these movies!!

Little bit of trivia…

Just a bit of trivia.  Tevin Washington, senior quarterback for Georgia Tech is from Wetumpka, Alabama.  He shares this distinction with the current People’s sexiest man alive, Channing Tatum.  Not bad company!!!

Of course it is Sunday, so there is this thing called the NFL

With all the College Football drama over the weekend, hard not to get caught up and forget, it is NFL Sunday.  On TV for me are the Falcons, coming off their first loss of the season, hosting the Arizona Cardinals.  Later, I get Indy at New England, Andrew Luck will visit Tom Brady.  On SNF, Baltimore at Pittsburgh (without Big Ben due to concussion) and on MNF, Chicago (without Jay Cutler due to concussion) at San Francisco.  Also, today the Eagles (without Micheal Vick due to a concussion) will visit the nation’s capital to take on RGIII and the Redskins.

Where in the world are the Manning brothers??? Eli and the Giants are at St. Louis and later today Peyton and the Broncos will host San Diego.

Updates later…

AP Poll and Coaches Poll out

The AP and Coaches Polls are out.  Here we go!  AP Poll: 1) Notre Dame, 2) Alabama, 3) UGA, 4) Ohio State, 5) Oregon, 6 Florida, 7 Kansas State, 8 LSU, 9 Texas A & M, 10 FSU  (Stanford is #11).  Coaches Poll: 1 Notre Dame, 2 Alabama, 3 UGA, 4 Oregon, 5 FSU, 6 Florida, 7 LSU, 8 Kansas State, 9 Clemson, 10 Texas A & M (again, #11 Stanford).

One glaring difference, besides of course the fact that Ohio State cannot be ranked in other polls besides AP, FSU at number 5 in Coaches Poll, #10 in AP.  Oregon stayed at 5, 6 and Kansas State at 7, 8.  Clemson is in top ten in Coaches Poll, not in AP.  Stanford is on the cusp in both.  Very big game next weekend between Stanford and UCLA.

BCS Poll out tonight!

Out of the chaos springs questions, possibilities…

Out of the chaos of yesterday’s College Football results, the BCS is now in a state of confusion.  Who will be no, 1 and no. 2?  What happened to Kansas State, was it the infamous “SI curse”?  (Collin Klein was just on the cover of Sports Illustrated)  What happened to Oregon at home?  Is Stanford a very undervalued team and program?  Which one loss SEC team stands to gain the most from yesterday’s failures?  Is is Alabama, or could it be Georgia?  (Apologies, but I hope not!).

Well, the answer to some of this is, none of this has yet been decided.  Kansas State was literally rolled by a Baylor team with a losing record.  Oregon fell to a outstanding Stanford team, that may have been robbed of  an earlier OT victory in South Bend by a controversial call.  Did Stephan Taylor cross the plane of the goal on 4th down or not?  I thought he did.  The referees determined he did not.  Thus, Notre Dame is undefeated.  Notre Dame will likely ascend to no 1.  Alabama perhaps no. 2.  We will look at the polls as they are out a little later, first the AP and Coaches, tonight the BCS.  There are rivalries games to be played next week and then there are conference championship games to played the following week.  So for all the fun and craziness of yesterday, two more weeks remain to determine who will play for the BCS Championship.  And, even then, we all know, there will be questions, and more questions…

On interesting possibility for me, maybe farfetched but pleasant to entertain for now non the less; Georgia Tech has the opportunity to not only perhaps win the Coastal Division of the ACC, but they can upset Georgia next weekend and remove that budding possibility before it has time to take full bloom.  OK, I know, now I am being a Tech fan!!

Later with the polls and more…

Oh my, the chaos!!!

BCS chaos in November at its best!  No. 1 and no. 2 both fall on the same day, for the first time since 2007.  1 Kansas State gets run over by Baylor 52 – 24.  2 Oregon falls to 13 Stanford in OT 17 – 14.  (Remember the controversial OT loss by Stanford at Notre Dame!!)  The Irish are smiling, all the way to no. 1 and some SEC teams are smiling too.  There is still more football to be played, however!

More tomorrow…
