ABC drama Nashville

ABC drama Nashville returned last night with a new episode.  Lamar suffered a heart attack at the end of last week’s show and is in the hospital.  Rayna has the girls on tour with her in New York and returns home to Nashville.  She of course calls Deacon to update him and Deacon winds up at her side at the hospital while she waits for her father (Lamar) to wake up after undergoing bypass surgery.  Deacon has a new girlfriend, but Rayna is his soulmate.  Wonder just how long it will take for them to eventually reconnect romantically?  This is a nighttime soap opera so one would have to expect that the expected will not happen quickly?  Meanwhile, her soon to be ex husband, Teddy, and newly elected mayor of Nashville, finds out that his current (and past) love, Peggy, in fact sold him out to the tabloids.  Rayna’s sister has phone records of her phone calls to the tabloids regarding Rayna and Teddy splitting, along with a pile of lies and gossip.  Hmm…wonder how he is going to deal with that bit of news (if it turns out to be true?).  Scarlett is happily the first signed solo artist on Rayna’s new record label and her boyfriend and fellow songwriter, Gunnar, seems  on the mend after a wild night out “chasing death” with their new friend and neighbor.  He had not been able to write since the murder of his ex con older brother but for the first time begins to write and sing some tunes.  Scarlett’s ex boyfriend, Avery, has fallen on hard times and now is a roadie on the tour for Rayna and Juliette.  And then there is Juliette, who never fails to disappoint with her antics.  She is now sleeping with her mother’s sober coach and hires him as her new manager, sending Momma back to Nashville to an apartment and instructing her assistant to get her a new sober coach, a female one!  Gotta just love the drama on this show.  Stay tuned…new episode on next Wednesday at 10:00 pm EST.

Kobe Bryant…doing work!

Kobe Bryant, the old guy at 34, is doing work!  He is flat out getting it done as he tries to somehow guide the Lakers into the postseason.  Last night in Portland, Kobe had 47 points (a season high), 8 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 blocked shots.  He scored 28 points in the first half alone.  The Lakers trailed by four in the final period and proceeded to go on a 21 – 10 run to finish with a 113 – 106 victory over the Trail Blazers on the road in Portland.  This victory puts the Lakers into the 8th playoff spot, one game ahead of Utah with three games remaining.  The remaining games are all at the Staples Center but are against teams who have all made the playoffs.  This is going right down to the wire.  One thing is for certain however, in a season that has seen the Lakers struggle and be downright embarrassing to watch at times, Kobe has had one of his finest years.  He simply wills this team to win and involves his teammates in the action with skill and savvy in the most intricate of situations and circumstances.  Gasol and Howard are finally both excelling in the paint and complimenting one another.  Gasol had 23 points last night and Howard added 20 points.  Now, they need Steve Nash back and Metta World Peace (must have his defense).  Stay tuned, three games and counting to see if Kobe can life the Lakers on his shoulders and carry them into the playoffs!

The Masters starts tommorrow – Tiger or the field?

Tomorrow, golf fans everywhere get to begin enjoying four glorious days of what is arguably the greatest spectacle in all of golf, The Masters.  So, are you taking Tiger, or the field?  Tiger is currently 3 -1 if you pay attention to Vegas, Rory is 8-1.   Rory is there with girlfriend and tennis star, Caroline Wozniacki.  Tiger’s current gal pal, Lindsey Vonn, well, there has been no sighting of her so far.  Anyhow, the best of the best are in Augusta, GA.  Last year’s winner, Bubba Watson, Keegan Bradley, Matt Kuchar, Graeme McDowell, Lee Westwood, Luke Donald, Phil Mickelson, even a fourteen year old from Asia.  So, do you take the field or do you take Tiger.  The past few years, winners of Majors have been a conglomerate of the “field”.  There has been no dominant player.  But Tiger is once again the #1 player in the world.  So, does he win his first Major since 2008?  Does he win his fifth Masters?  I am going to go with Tiger over the field.  What about you guys?

The Manning Boys, together again!

One of my familiar posts during the NFL season has always been, Where in the world are the Manning boys?  Peyton and Eli of course!  Well, the Manning boys are at Duke University working out with coach David Cutcliffe, Peyton’s former head coach at the University of Tennessee.  Peyton has been working out with his new receiver, Wes Walker.  Wes used to catch passes from Tom Brady for the Patriots, but next year he will be with Peyton in Denver!  Pretty cool, uh?  Eli, the one with the great hair, has been working out with big brother Peyton at Duke as well.  Next year these two will actually face off against each other in the regular season.  Remember the great commercial with Deion Sanders in the fairy costume and Peyton where Deion asks where is Eli, he misses him and Peyton says ” Eli is getting a perm”!  Well, Eli does have some really great hair.  These guys were on ESPN and Eli is almost as funny as Peyton, maybe sometimes funnier?  Gotta love Eli is getting a perm gig!

Kobe has huge 4th period and Lakers survive Hornets

Kobe Bryant caught fire in the 4th period in the Staples Center last night and helped lift the Lakers back into the 8th playoff spot with a 104 – 96 victory over the Hornets.  Now, granted, the Lakers had no business losing this game.  Non the less, it was actually quite close until Kobe took over.  He finished with 30 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists and scored 23 of his 30 points in the final twelve minutes.  Great to see Pau Gasol comfortable in the paint and he was a huge contributor, especially when Dwight Howard picked up his 5th foul in the fourth period.  Gasol finished with 22 points and 11 rebounds, Howard added 19 points.  Yes, World Peace did play, for a short period anyway.  His defensive intensity is sorely missed by the Lakers and he was attempting to return from knee surgery after only twelve days when it had been announced he would likely miss six weeks.  The Lakers are still without the services of Steve Nash.  The playoff march continues tonight when the Lakers take on Portland on the road.

Earlier, OKC took care of the Jazz, 90 – 80 which helped boost the Lakers back into the 8th playoff spot.  Also, Melo and the New York Knicks took care of the Wizards, 120 – 99 for their 13th straight victory.  Just how serious a threat are the Knicks to the Heat in the Eastern Conference?  I would say substantial, yet remember that in their last meeting, both LeBron and Wade were dressed in nice suits sitting out on the bench.  Can the Knicks possibly stop the Heat in the playoffs should they both make it to the Eastern Conference final?  In a best of seven, anything is possible, but the Heat would be the smart bet!
