World #1 Serena Willaims wins in Miami

World #1 Serena Williams survived the loss of the first set to Maria Sharapova to come back and win the Sony Open title in Miami for the record setting 6th time, 4 – 6, 6- 3, 6- 0.  Serena won the last ten games of the match.  Sharapova is now 0 -5 in finals at this event.  Tomorrow, David Ferrer will face Andy Murray for the men’s title.  Coverage will be before the NCAA tournament action, 11:30 am EST on CBS.  As I mentioned in an earlier post, I have not kept up with this event as I usually do with all tennis tournaments.  Roger Federer is not playing so I am watching it as a secondary event with NCAA Tourney in all its glory.  When Fed returns in Madrid, then I will make it a priority!  What can I say, I love Roger Federer.

Kobe and Nash back in lineup tonight for Lakers

Both Kobe Bryant and Steve Nash will be back in the lineup for tonight’s game vs. the Kings in Sacramento.  Kobe is battling a bone spur in his left foot and Steve Nash is dealing with a sore hip.  The Lakers find themselves teetering on the brink of being out of the playoffs.  Utah holds the tie break for the 8th playoff spot.  Oh my, really now; how can this happen?  The Lakers not making the playoffs would be ridiculous with all that talent.  Let’s hope they can rally together and get it done tonight and in the eight remaining games this season!

1 Kansas falls to 4 Michigan

Well at last, I got this one right in my bracket!  1 Kansas led 4 Michigan for most of the game last night, at one time by as much as 14 points, only to see Michigan all world guard Trey Burke come to life in the second half.  Burke went scoreless in the first half and then had 23 points in the second.  With seconds remaining and trailing by three points, he lofted a three point shot from at least five feet behind the arc and it was all net.  That sent the game into OT, tied 76 – 76.  He came out in the OT and shot another long range 3 point shot and from there on, it was evident something special was going to happen.  4 Michigan takes out 1 Kansas in OT, 87 – 85 and has made the Elite Eight for the first time since 1994.

In other games last night, the clock struck midnight for Cinderella, 15 Florida Gulf Coast College, and they are headed back to Ft. Myers, FL.  The can certainly head home with their heads held high.  Quite a show they put on in this year’s tourney.  Big brother, 3 Univ. of Florida was just too much for them and they went down, 62 – 50.

Moving to the Midwest Region, 1 Louisville (and the number one overall seed in the tourney) advanced over 12 Oregon, 77 – 69.  The score is a bit closer than the game itself, Oregon trailed and then would make a push and they did hang around but one never felt that the outcome of this game was in doubt.  Louisville looks really, really good!  2 Duke started out slow but then came to life and took care of 3 Michigan State, 71 – 61.  Duke moved on with a bit more ease than I would have anticipated against Tom Izzo’s team and now they will face Louisville on Sunday.  I so want to put the Dukies through to the Final Four but I have Louisville advancing in my bracket.  We will wait and see…

Saturday’s games which will determine who goes to the Final Four from the West and East Regions will feature 9 Wichita State vs. 2 Ohio State (West) and 4 Syracuse vs. 3 Marquette (East).

Sundays’ games will determine who gets to go to Atlanta from the Midwest and South Regions!  2 Duke vs. 1 Louisville (Midwest and should be a great one!) and 4 Michigan vs. 3 Florida (South).

Dallas Cowboys love Tony Romo!

The Dallas Cowboys and Tony Romo have reportedly inked a 6 year deal worth 108 million dollars.  The Cowboys love Tony Romo!  Also, reportedly the San Francisco Giants love Buster Posey!  Rumor is he has signed a 8 year/167 million dollar deal to carry through to the 2021-22 season.  Isn’t it great to be loved!

Lakers crash and burn…

The LA Lakers crashed and burned last night, falling in Milwaukee, 113 – 103.  This is plain and simply a BAD loss.  No other way to describe it.  Kobe has a bothersome bone spur in his left foot which he will have checked out by a specialist when the team arrives in Sacramento for their next game.  Steve Nash sat out most of the second half with a hip spasm.  Gee, these guys are getting old.  No, not really and Kobe has said he will be all right!  I sure hope so because that 8th playoff spot they are currently sitting in is starting to shake and rumble.  I want to see the Lakers make the playoffs.  I want to see them play like a team that has the incredible amount of talent on the roster they possess.  P.S. Don’t blame Dwight Howard, he scored 15 points with 15 rebounds.  Coach D’Antoni just cannot seem to figure out how to best utilize both Gasol and Howard.  Many coaches would love to have that sort of dilemma.  World Peace being out clearly hurts the Lakers defensively, but still…Come on Lakers, get it together!

Nashville returned last night!

The ABC hit drama Nashville returned with a new episode last night!  At last…this show is just so good!  Love Connie Britton and really impressed with her singing along with Hayden Panettiere as well.  For a brief recap: Gunnar goes off the grid a bit after his brother’s murder and Scarlett and Deacon reel him back in.  Only problem, Scarlett gets news that she has been offered a solo record deal by Rayna and her new record label so don’t know how that is going to affect Gunnar, his psyche and his budding relationship with Scarlett.  Speaking of Rayna, she is still struggling with the divorce and the impact it is having on her two girls.  Wonder when she is going to finally hook up with her long time true love, Deacon?  Deacon has meanwhile developed a crush on his attractive vet, as he takes his new puppy (birthday gift from Juliette) to the doctor to see what is wrong with his new companion.  The tour will be continuing new week in New York and Deacon will show up with his new lady friend and Rayna is going to have to deal with some things in a hurry.  Teddy continues to assert himself, not caving into Lamar and hiring Coleman as his Deputy mayor and looking like he really is a man with new found confidence and character.  He continues in his relationship with Peggy.  Avery ditches his new record label and goes back to The Bluebird in Nashville, returning to his roots hoping to reignite his career and be more true to himself.  Still, at the heart of this show, Rayna and Deacon?  When is it going to happen?  Well, it cannot be simple because if it were, we would have no drama, and thus no show!  Stay tuned…continues next week.  Six more episodes are in store for us I believe.

Tiger Woods Nike ad…”Winning Takes Care of Everything”

Well, well, well, here we go.  Nike has a new Tiger Woods ad and here comes the controversy.  A picture of Tiger Woods, in red Sunday attire, crouched position with the caption “Winning Takes Care of Everything”  Tiger Woods, world #1 golfer.  Really, people?  Why is there any controversy?  We have one relationship with Tiger Woods, that is as a golf fan, the viewing public, with Tiger Woods the golfer.  And guess what?  He is now the number one golfer in the world again, today, 3/ 27/13 after three years of working on his game, and yes, his life.  Thank you Marcellus Wiley of SportsNation LA for putting this in perspective for us today.  Have to admit, I have not watched SportsNation LA so much as of late.  Charissa (SportsNation LA co-host) is now also the host of the ABC show Splash.  Gosh, good things seem to happen when one moves to LA.  Wish I could join the party!  Anyhow, this ad pertains to Tiger Woods, the golfer.  He has seemingly made strides in repairing his personal life, at the end of the day, it is really non of our business.  Non the less, he seems happy.  Good for him, dating Lindsey Vonn, I have previous posts about this.  His ex wife has reportedly moved on to a 53 year old neighbor, a coal mining billionaire with two failed marriages and four children.  I mean who are we to judge either of them.  We did not live in their marriage or in their world.  What I care about is what I saw this past weekend, when Tiger was once again Tiger, dressed in red, albeit on Monday instead of Sunday, winning, smiling and reclaiming the #1 ranking.  His friend and competitor, Rory Mcilroy, also dating a world class athlete, Caroline Wozniacki (tennis) sent him a text, congratulations.  Tiger responded with a get your “tail” back out here.  This is good news for sports fans.  This is great for golf.  The ad is OK.  It is all good people!
